New Delhi: The BJP ruled three Municipal Corporations of Delhi (MCDs) have collapsed financially and functionally. It is a matter of grave concern that the BJP-ruled central government, which also controls the three MCDs of Delhi, is pushing the national capital towards a civic chaos.
The central government controlled Delhi Development Corporation (DDA) owes Rs 1550 crore to the three MCDs, which is one of the major reasons apart from financial corruption in the MCDs for their grave financial crisis.
It is extremely shocking that the BJP’s central government is creating hurdles in the transfer of this amount to the MCDs, which was collected by the DDA as property tax. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would like to know from the BJP why its central government is pushing the national capital into chaos and what is the BJP stand on this outstanding amount of MCDs pending with the DDA ?
It is a matter of shame that the infighting between the BJP’s central government department and the MCDs is creating hardships for the residents of the national capital. There are clear indications that the strike by the sanitation workers is being provoked by the BJP. This conspiracy was hatched following BJP’s unsuccessful attempts to spread falsehoods about Delhi government not having released adequate funds to the MCDs, but facts have exposed the BJP.
Compared to the corresponding period last year, the Delhi government has so far released 75 % of the funds earmarked for the current financial year to the North MCD, 69 % to the South MCD and 64 % to East MCD.
Last year, when the BJP was controlling Delhi through President’s Rule, till October 2014, North MCD had got 58%, South 56% and East had got 58 % of the funds of the last financial year.
The MCDs have an outstanding loan of Rs 5908 crore, which they owe to the Delhi government, and the AAP government has already made it clear that it will not insist on either repayment or even part repayment of this loan for the current financial year, given the precarious MCD condition.
The BJP which has been ruling the MCDs since last eight years has turned it into the most corrupt department of the world. According to the rankings for Swachh Bharat released by the Union Urban Development Ministry, MCD has been ranked at 398 out of 476.
