New DelhI: Delhi government has released book on value education for their incorporation in the school curriculum in various classes. It is a unique initiative of Delhi Government to introduce value based learning for the children of all age groups in Delhi Government Schools.

During the occassion, Prof. Walia said that the Government felt a need for enlightening children about the value system which is somehow not getting full attention. Prof. Walia further informed that even though our country having rich cultural heritage containing values, present education system has not been able to do full justice to the overall development of a child which should not only include high academics but should cover proper personality development for which values need to be imbibed by them.

In this background, Govt. of Delhi decided to develop content so that the children could be acquainted with values from very early years of their learning. Accordingly, books on value education have been developed from Class- I to Class-VIII by a team of experienced academicians.

These books contain stories associated with national, cultural and social heritage with the help of colourful stories, poems and activities to make learning a joyful experience and at the same time making them responsive to the values aspect contained in them. Workshops would be conducted to make the learning interactive.

In addition to above, a set of 18 activity based cards on ‘Gender Sensitization and Awareness’ have also been developed for Classes-I to XII about gender equality among students.

The Department is introducing Value Based Content from Class-I to Class-XII with an aim to inculcate such values from early stages of learning. There would be one booklet for all these subjects in each of the classes. The content has been designed according to age groups. The content caters to both Hindi and English Medium students.

Prof. Kiran Walia informed that these books will be distributed free of cost to the students of Govt. Schools.

Prof. Walia appreciated the efforts of SCERT, NGOs and a large number of Principals involved in the curriculum. She also expressed confidence that in times to come the society will have citizens sensitized about values of caring and sharing, gender equality, national pride, regard for humanity and the environment.
