New Delhi: Congress leaders agitated demonstrators burned the effigies of Union Power Minister Shri Piyush Goel and Shri Arvind Kejriwal to vent their ire. The effigies were set ablaze by Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Arvinder Singh, former MP and senior leader Shri Sajjan Kumar, MLA and senior leader and chief spokesperson Shri Mukesh Sharma.
The demonstrators started walking from Peepal Chowk at 10 a.m, and at the main crossing, Shri Arvinder Singh, accompanied by Shri Sajjan Kumar, Shri Mukesh Sharma and Shri Ramesh Kumar, was prevented from sitting at the main crossing by a posse of police personnel, leading to minor clashes between the demonstrators and the police.
Addressing the demonstrators, Shri Arvinder Singh and Shri Sajjan Kumar mocked at Shri Arvind Kejriwal’s statement that during his rule in Delhi, there were no shortages of power, as it was a laughable statement because even in the worst of times, January and February would hardly face any power shortages. They said the truth was that Shri Arvind Kejriwal had no understanding of the ground-level problems in Delhi. They made it clear that it was only because of the support of the Congress MLAs that Shri Arvind Kejriwal, who takes credit for giving subsidy in electricity bills, could give 50 per cent subsidy to power consumption upto 400 units.
They said the power subsidy given by the previous Congress Government was terminated due to the irresponsibile acts of Arvind Kejriwal. Shri Arvinder Singh and Shri Sajjan Kumar, making a direct attack on BJP’s Union Power Minister Shri Piyush Goel, said had the Central Government made enough power available to Delhi, such an explosive situation would not have arisen now. They said only after the Congress leaders gheraoed the chief secretary at the Delhi Secretariat that the ruling BJP leadership was awakened from their deep slumber on the power and water woes in Delhi. They said instead of improving the situation in Delhi, things have only worsened further. Both the leaders said the people were being forced to use hand fans, and even invertors were not working due to power outages.
Shri Mukesh Sharma wanted to know the relation of the BJP and Shri Arvind Kejriwal with the power companies. He blamed the Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP for not taking the power companies to task on power cuts till now. He said this showed that the power companies had struck some deal with the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party. He asked why was Shri Arvind Kejriwal, who used to hold dharnas and agitations for small, small issues and had even refused to furnish bond on a defamation case to go to jail, not starting an agitation against the power companies.
