NEW DELHI: A high-level delegation of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC), under the leadership of its president Arvinder Singh, MLA met Lt. Governor of Delhi Dr Najeeb Jung on the pressing problems of power and water, and the sealing of household industries and readymade garment units by the Delhi Municipal Corporations.
The memorandum submitted by Arvinder Singh to the Lt. Governor said that due to the shortage of drinking water, the people of Delhi were not only facing severe problems, but the situation was getting out of control. The memorandum also pointed out that unscheduled power cuts, ranging from 10 to 12 hours, were being imposed in Delhi, particularly in unauthorized colonies, villages, JJ clusters and resettlement colonies.
The Pradesh Congress also informed the Lt Governor that there were areas in Delhi where people have been forced to drink dirty or underground water, threatening the outbreak of diseases. The Congress party also registered its protest at the long power cuts, particularly in West and South Delhi areas.
Shri Arvinder Singh also requested the Lt. Governor to put an immediate stop to the sealing drive undertaken by the BJP-ruled MCDs on household industrial and readymade garment units. He said the MCD officials were deliberately not renewing the licences of these units. Quoting the example of the Gandhi Nagar Assembly constituency, he said the MCD officials were taking bribes with both hands from the owners of these industrial units.
Shri Mukesh Sharma clearly told the Lt. Governor about the Pradesh Congress’ decision that if the power and water condition did not improve in Delhi, the Congress Party, with the support of the people, will be forced to strengthen its chakka-jam agitation.
