Delhi: Amid the much hue and cry over the Odd Even second edition for the National
Capital Region, a Canadian delegation led by the H.E. Nadir Patel, High
Commissioner of Canada to India called on the Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind
Kejriwal and lauded the Odd-Even Scheme implemented in Delhi. The delegation told
the Chief Minister that it took them just 20-minutes to reach from Noida to
Delhi Secretariat.
"We
wish you the best, change is difficult to happen. This will surely bring the
corruption level down and traffic has been decongested," said a member of
the delegation. The delegation asked the Chief Minister how the enforcement was
being done to ensure the Odd-Even formula is not breached.
The
Chief Minister told them that it was the engagement with the public done before
the implementation of the first Odd-Even for 15-days from January 1 to January
15, 2016 that has worked and made it a success.
“Talking
to the people, engaging them and awareness was the key. It became a people’s
movement and succeeded. People accepted it voluntarily and wholeheartedly. It
failed in most of the countries, but Delhi embraced it for the good of
generations,” said the Chief Minister.
Cooperation
between Delhi and Canada, tourism and Urban development were also discussed.
The Chief Minister outlined his priority areas during the meeting – Education,
Health, Water, Electricity, Infrastructure and Tourism.
The
delegation greeted the Chief Minister for the steps he has taken to curb
corruption in Delhi. The Chief Minister also explained them the journey from
the anti-corruption movement to a political party and then a new model of
governance. The
Chief Minister was also invited by the delegation to Canada. He was told that
Canada will be celebrating its 150th year in 2017.
