After 40 Years, India Gets Opportunity to host International Olympic Committee Session : Facts in Brief

Mumbai India to Host IOC Session 2023: The Indian Olympic Federation (IOA) has won the bid to host the next session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Mumbai in 2023. After almost 40 years, the country will get a chance to host the session of the International Olympic Committee. Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has expressed happiness over the selection of India as the host for the International Olympic Committee session for the year 2023.

The Prime Minister's Office tweeted;

"It is gladdening to note that India has been chosen to host the 2023 International Olympic Committee Session. I am confident this will be a memorable IOC session and will lead to positive outcomes for world sports".

1. It is noteworthy that after almost 40 years, the country will get a chance to host the session of the International Olympic Committee.
2. It is noted that total of 75 members voted in favor of Mumbai, while one voted against India.
3. Earlier India had hosted the last IOC session in 1983 in New Delhi.
4. India had presented India's proposal for hosting rights in the 139th edition at this year's IOC session in Beijing. 
5. Beijing is currently hosting the 2022 Winter Olympics.
6. The IOC Session 2023 will be held in May or June at the state-of-the-art Jio World Center in Mumbai.
