New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on completion of one month of his government in office informed the media that his government’s intention is to make Delhi a city free of corruption, crime, fear and pollution. He said that thegovernment’s endevaour is to provide a justice-based system and put in place a clean and honest system. Kejriwal welcomed the public and media scrutiny of his government. He said that one month is too short a period to judge any government, but the views and opinions expressed in the media on his government’s performance have helped him in better delivery of pro-people policies.

Kejriwal dealt on major issues point wise :

A corruption free system : The Chief Minister said the anti-corruption helpline and the government’s clear intention to crack down on corruption has had an impact in the city, though much more needs to be done. He appealed to the media to join the anti-graft fight.

Kejriwal listed the Janlokpal and Swarj bills as the major priority areas of the government to fight corruption. He said the Janlokpal bill is likely to be taken up by the cabinet on Friday and the government wants to convene the assembly session by mid-February to get it passed.

Justice based system : The Chief Minister said his government intends to set-up a Special Investigation Team to probe the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, since these victims have been denied justice since 30 years. The cabinet is expected to take up this matter soon.

Ending VIP culture in the city : The government has fulfilled its promise of doing away with read beacons and big bungalows. It will take more measures to ensure that elected representatives represent the common man.

ELECTRICITY : CAG audit of DISCOMs ordered; those consuming upto 400 units per month will be given 50% subsidy; third party testing of fast running meters ordered.

WATER : Those households consuming upto 666 litres per day are being given free water – efforts on to ensure that every house in Delhi gets clean water. Crackdown on tanker mafia on; government’s endeavour is that citizens right to water has to be honoured.

Anti-corruption and nursery admission helplines made functional, which have been immensely helpful for the people.

5500 fresh permits given to auto-rickshaws for hassle-free movement in the NCR region.

The government has fulfilled its election promise of reversing the decision to allow FDI in retail.

A high level committee has been formed to formulate a policy on how to regularise employees working on contractual, guest and casual basis;

Similarly the government has set in motion the process to set-up Mahila Suraksha Dals (MSDs) at ward level to help the women in distress.

The government has decided to set a new precedent of appointing non-political people in boards, commissions and other bodies where it has a discretion to do so. The government has already invited applications for filling up the posts of governing body members in 28 DU colleges funded by it. It has also decided to adopt the same procedure in other institutions like the Delhi Commission for Women.

The government has also decided to advertise the posts of its standing counsel, public prosecutors and other government appointed counsels to get good quality lawyers in its legal team. It will do away with the existing procedure of lawyers with political affiliations being appointed as government counsels.

The Chief Minister made it clear that for achieving good governance the key is not resources, but an honest intent and good intentions and his government gives priority to these attributes.
