Uttarakhand: International Women Day is the glorious occasion to salute the contribution of the women who have sacrificed her life for the betterment of society and country. Certainly on the occasion of International Women Day, it will be time to remember the Dr. P Hima Bindu, Chief Medical Officer who took prompt initiative in order to provide succor and relief to the adversely effected inhabitants in the Uttarakhnad.

It is noted that following the massive and widespread natural calamity caused in the state of Uttrakhand leading to mammoth proportion of human tragedy as well as enormous magnitude of damage to property, infrastructure and environment of the State, Border Security Force took prompt initiative in order to provide succor and relief to the adversely effected inhabitants. Dr. P Hima Bindu, Chief Medical Officer have been detailed as a Lady Medical Officer to give medical cover to these victims in the Rescue and Rehabilitation Team of Border Security Force.

She reached the place of duty at Kotma Village which was at the centre of the twelve adopted villages by BSF for rehabilitation, scaling the difficult route on foot due to wash out of roads. She encountered ladies and personnel who lost their near and dear ones at the disaster, Kedarnath. All the families in the villages mostly lost the earning members of the family. The psychological trauma to the ladies of the village is a major one which takes a lot of time to heal.

But, herself also being a Psychiatrist did counseling of them repeatedly during her stay period along with treatment of their physical illnesses. Their major concern was at that time, restoration of the channels of communication which were washed out…. to Guptkashi, the nearest town via which all the trade and income could be established.

During her stay patients with pregnancy, leucorrhea, generalized weakness, low backache, respiratory infection, skin diseases, depression etc reported who were treated. All the ladies and children were extremely happy with presence of a lady doctor as they could freely discuss their problems with her.

Dr Bindu was the first lady doctor to reach those villages to serve these women folks. Even all the NGOs could reach upto Guptkashi only and refrained themselves from reaching these villages due to wash out of roads and effort to reach there by walking on hilly terrain.

She felt special and unique that she got a chance to serve the needy people by overcoming the adverse conditions at that time with no electricity and adequate water supply. She expressed that she is extremely happy to have served the disaster affected people.
