The Gen Next programme is a perfect example of Lakmé Fashion Week’s endeavor to promote and nurture young fashion talent. 18 long seasons have provided over hundred alumni with a chance to showcase their design sensibilities at India's most prestigious fashion event. Swapnil Shinde, Rahul Mishra, Masaba Gupta, Nitin Bal Chauhan, Archana Rao, Aneeth Arora are some past protégés who got their first break at Lakmé Fashion Week. And are today a star in their own right.

Joining this illustrious club are six vibrant designers who will show their collections at the upcoming Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014. They were chosen by the LFW Advisory board, who possess distinct qualities that promise to carry forth the legacy of the past Gen Next designers.

The winners will be mentored by Anita Dongre, one of the best Indian designer who will further enhance their individual design sensibilities.

INIFD Presents Gen Next Designers:

Anuj Bhutani

This 25 year old Delhi based designer is a fashion design graduate from JD Institute of Fashion Technology. He will show a unique collection at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014 that will take winter dressing to a heightened level.

His label – REBOOT – is all about reconstructing of menswear. A cohesive approach with design, luxury and experimentation, lies at the heart of his brand. With tailored deconstruction, a subtle vibe of unisex aims to target young men who prefer comfort with a dash of grandeur. Anuj says “The collection is an attempt to share a distinctive take on the 60’s era of English subculture called ‘Teddy Boys’.”

Arunima Majhi

A graduate from the illustrious National Institute of Fashion Technology, Arunima will be presenting a captivating evening wear collection at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014.

With her eponymous label she aims to create a wearable aesthetics for women who desire to stand out.

The Mumbai based designer says, “This futuristic evening wear collection, titled ‘Venus Fly Trap’ is inspired by the edgy and deceptive beauty that transcends from the carnivorous plants, that have evoked as the silent warriors much like the Mata Hari of the plant kingdom.”

Dhruv Kapoor

Another Delhi based Gen Next designer, Dhruv has masters in Fashion Design Womenswear from Marangoni, Italy. Through his collection at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014, he aims to highlight the raw and bold traits of women.

His eponymous label – has two segments –ready to wear and diffusion Line/sportswear. His brand focuses on using technology in all its assets to create and develop fabrics, prints, embroideries that best match his design philosophy.

Dhruv says “The collection aims to bring out a fearless army of women who defy superficial fragility. We have tapped the powerhouse that resides within each one and tried to portray the adamance, intellect and aggression.

Kristy De Cunha

This 31 year old Mumbai based designer is all set to show her ‘La Casa Azul (the blue house)’ collection which is a tribute to Frida Kahlo and her unborn at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014.

Her eponymous label is all about edgy and dramatic garment constructions, with an artistic appeal of a very very different kind! It is meant for women who are ready to make a fashion statement that will shock the world!

Kristy says “My collections depicts Frida Kahlo’s raw emotions and her larger than life personality. What will stand out is the custom designed bold prints as well as the use of colors.”

Neha Agarwal

This 28 year old is a London College of Fashion graduate and is based in Mumbai. At Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014 she will present a collection depicting dark illusions of a female's alter-ego.

Her label – NEZ – manifests an infusion of audacious characteristics with barbaric illusions conceptualized for a flamboyant, eccentric and liberal minded target audience. Its artisanal aptitude accentuates outlandish individuality, juxtaposing structured curves with intensive hand-made texturing.

Neha says, “My collection is called "Niola Doa", that personifies "Apocalyptic Beauty" inspired from the primitive culture of the Ethiopian "Mursi Tribe".

Surbhi Shekhar

28 year old, this design talent is an alumnus of National Institute of Fashion Technology and is currently based in New Delhi. Her collection for Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014 is rooted in daydreams and unfettered imagination.

Her label – Surbhi*Shekhar comprises of bold silhouettes, chic modular separates and feminine feline styles. With her brand she aims to produce own clothes that one can love and wear over and over again.

Surbhi says, “Our collection is inspired by Fever Ray, the lead vocalist of The Knife and will exhibit a spellbinding mix that evokes ritualistic visions of witchcraft.”
