This is the perfect day for the devotees to attain spiritual awakening and liberation.  According to hindu mythology, the auscipicious day of Maha Shivratri has its own significance as both Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati both got married.Maha Shivratri is to be celebrated on the Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi of Falgun month. 

Mahashivratri 2024 Date

Mahashivratri is one of the the most prominent festivals of the Hindu religion which will be celebrated this year on March 08, 2024. 

According to the Hindu calender, Maha Shivratri is to be celebrated on the Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi of Falgun month. Generally it falls in the February/March according to the English Calender. Devotees use to worship Lord Shiva on the significant day of Maha Shivratri  and also offers prayer with full fervor to impress the Lord Shiva by offering the holy water on the Shiva Linga in the temples. 

Maha Shivratri 2024: Pooja Vidhi

Devotees use to celebrate Shivratri Puja 2024 by offering the belpatra and sacred water on the Shiv Linga in the temples. Devotees use to offer also the  flowers, fruits with water (Jal which is known as Jalabhishek) to the Linga of Lord Shiva. 

Devotees take a bath in early on the day of Maha Shivratri and visit the nearest temples to offer the Jal and fruits to the Linga of Lord Shiva. 

Unmarried girls use to fast on the occasion of the Mahashivratri 2024 in a bid to get her favorite and able, beautiful life partner as a husband. Meanwhile, married women also use to fast on the occasion for the betterment of her husband and his children.

During fast, women use to worship Lord Shiva for Mahashivratri 2024 by keeping fast and consume only fruits and milk related products. Those devotees who use to remain fast on the day of Mahashivratri, generally they avoid taking any kind of grains and take only fruits and Prasad of the Lord Shiva.

 They break their fast on the next day of the Mahashivratri and the entire day and night of the Mahashivratri they avoid to take any kind of grains. The concept behind keeping fast is that the fasting purified the body and also our consciousness.

According to the Vedic Scriptures and Shiv Purana, Lord Shiva said to Goddess Parvati that when devotees worship him with the Belpatra on the 14th day of the waning moon in the month of Phalgun (the last month of the 12 of Hindi month), it provide more pleasure to him.
