Delhi Government collaborates with GHFP-Guerrand-Hermès Foundation for Peace
Delhi Government collaborates with GHFP (Guerrand-Hermès Foundation for Peace) Institute to participate in 2021 IF20 Education Working Group initiative to explore dialogue and listening as a pathway for transformative education, deep learning and collective healing. As part of the collaboration, Delhi Government partners with GHFP Institute for the IF20 Education Working Group (IF20 Edu WG)  initiative, 'A Time to Heal- How Education can Contribute to Healing and Well-Being: A Global Listening Initiative.'

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia launched the first online workshop with Professor Scherto Gill, Chair of G20 Interfaith Forum. He said, “Our teachers and students have gone through a lot of pain during the time of pandemic, we want to support them in overcoming the grief. We want to create a space for our teachers and their students for sharing, and a meaningful dialogue and listening before resumption of teaching learning activities.”

Deputy CM Shri Manish Sisodia said, “Pandemic has given us the opportunity to re-imagine schooling and adapt it to the new emerging realities. We need to ask the question that whether we want to start teaching right away or do we want to give the space for the teachers and students to reconnect with each other. For us school reopening is not just about opening the books; it’s about opening the heart and mind to reconnect with each other." He emphasized that the schools and schooling can’t be the same and they need to evolve.

Deputy CM Shri Manish Sisodia reiterated that in the present circumstances, it is important for the teachers to reconnect with their students. He added, “But before that, they need to be prepared to not just overcome their own grief and stress due to very difficult last few months but also be emotionally ready to support their students too who are in similar circumstances. Hence, it is important that teachers are supported and enabled to prepare themselves to counsel their students, support them if they are facing any challenge and help them to come to a stage where they are ready to resume teaching learning activities.”

As a first step of the collaboration with GHFP, a team of experts will conduct three days session with a small group of Mentor Teachers of Delhi Government. Thereafter, Mentor teachers will conduct similar sessions with two teachers of each school. These two teachers will then help the fellow teachers in their own schools to initiate dialogue with their students and parents, if needed.

Director Education Udit Prakash and Principal Advisor to Director Education Shailendra Sharma also attended the workshop. Shri Udit Prakash iterated, “Teachers are our biggest heroes, and we will take every step possible to ensure their well-being”. He highlighted on the plans to engage with experts in the field of mental health and well-being so that all the teachers in Delhi Government schools can get help, and provide the support to their students.
