New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has stated that Delhi has achieved almost 100% target of enrollment of its citizens under Aadhar. As against the population of 1.67 crore as per 2011 census, the total enrollment in Delhi has now crossed 1.71 crore. She added that the city government in the last few years has established an elaborate mechanism and put in considerable efforts to enable its citizens to get enrolled under Aadhar. The Government has commissioned large number of Aadhar enrollment Centers across the city to facilitate the citizens in getting them enrolled without any hassle or difficulty.

Delhi is one of the first states in the country to adopt Aadhar platform for direct cash transfer of benefits. Later in respect of the nine centrally sponsored schemes also Direct Cash Transfer was started with effect from 1st January, 2013.

Sheila Dikshit also emphasized that availing benefit of Government welfare schemes throughAadhar has been ensuring accuracy, transparency apart from minimizing corruption, fraud, role of middlemen and duplication. She also reiterated that Aadhar helps in directly reaching the benefits to genuine persons. It is an innovative governance reforms tool with the potential of ensuring radical change in public service delivery.

Dikshit stated that the Supreme Court has not refrained any government agency from enrolling citizens under Aadhar but has only ordered that Aadhar could not be made a mandatory condition to access Govt. services or subsidies. She expressed the hope that the Union Government would take up the matter with the Supreme Court keeping in view the inherent benefits that the Aadhar platform can offer, in availing Government welfare and other services, to the ordinary citizens, specially the poor and vulnerable.
