Maqbool Fida Husain: Maqbool Fida Husain, popularly known as MF Husain, was indeed, one of the prominent figures that India ever gave birth to. Known for his vigorous appreciation of God’s creations, particularly humans, he went on to create some masterpieces, to be remembered for lifetime.
Such was his scrutiny that he could portray circumstances and situations even with a pencil sketch. He is considered to be one such individual who blended ethnic and mythological themes to come p with luminous and incredible art forms.
M.F Husain was born on 17th of September 1913. 2013 was mark 100 years of the legend and all that he has left behind for art, culture and India's heritage. Husain was one of the most important Indian artists and had a very important role in taking the art world single handedly to a larger audience than any other artist would have ever achieved.
He was not only a painter but a poet sculpture, film maker and had a general immense appreciation for culture and the arts.
He was included on several lists as being amongst the most influential in both India and abroad. Husain wasn't much of a follower of Religion and he wasn't interested in politics, he learnt and studied both Hinduism as well as Islam and believed in one philosophy as a human Being one has to be good and follow their dream and good things happen.
Husain loved to travel and his travels took him across India, where he followed and learnt about the culture. It was a sad scenario that was created during 1990, where Husain was forced to leave India following that incident several political leaders supported him and promised him security and protection if he returned but he was afraid and found peace in Dubai. When he passed away in 2011 the art world lost a great leader, someone who was an inspiration with all his energy and plans to celebrate Husain life and his importance in art world.
It wouldn't be wrong to say that painting was the life and soul of MF Husain. Blessed with one of the best gifts of God-art, Husain knew exactly how to make paintings speak for themselves.
Over his tenure as a painter, he is claimed to have painted about 30,000 paintings in topics as diverse as Mohandas K Gandhi, Mother Teresa, the Ramayana, the Mahabharata, the British Raj, and motifs of Indian urban and rural life.
Husain moved to Mumbai for the first time at the age of 20 and took admission in J.J.School of Arts. He earned his living by painting cinema hoardings and whenever he managed to save some money, he used to travel to Baroda, Surat, and Ahmadabad to paint landscapes. Since painting hoardings did not give him much of earnings, he tried his luck in other jobs. Amongst them, working at the toy factory proved to be the best paying job, where he was engaged in designing and building fretwork toys. After struggling and experiencing hardships for years in Mumbai, Husain finally received recognition in the late 1940s. Though in 1944, he received an offer from Fantasy or designing children's furniture and later in 1947 from Kamdars, a famous design company, his initial love remained painting.
Husain had been honored with India's three most prestigious civilian awards, Padma Shree in 1955, Padma Bhushan in 1973, and Padma Vibhushan in 1991, for his distinguished contribution in the field of art. His 'Battle of Ganga and Jamuna : Mahabharata 12' successfully fetched $ 1.6 million in 2008, a world record at Christie's South Asian Modern and Contemporary Art sale. The same year, he was presented with the esteemed Raja Ravi Verma award by the Government of Kerala.
