The Group

Flying Feather’s Art Association’ was formed in 2008 by a group of enthusiastic artists from the various disciplines of theatre, painting, music, installation and video art, who believe in all kinds of artistic approaches and creative explorations for self as well as social and political development. The main objectives of this society are to provide a platform where traditional, classical, folk, popular and modern art and artists can collaborate and explore their artistic strength and vision. Our future aim is to build a performing art centre, equipped with all necessary artistic and technical resources.

The Play

Blackboard Land explores the psyche of human violence. The plot revolves around three people who are caught in an isolated place at the periphery of war. The place is situated near the merging borders of two states, or rather regions, which may have a common ethnic background.

The dialects spoken by the characters differ from each other, which further aggravates the conflict between them to a point when the mistrust starts bordering on physical violence. India today, with a diverse ethnic, linguistic and cultural background, stands at a juncture where internal boundaries can be created due to political reasons.

The last decade has seen the emergence of separatist and fundamentalist groups due to political dissatisfaction and nonchalance on the part of the government towards civil liberties and human rights.

This adapted presentation is an attempt to reach the depths of the human psyche through the layers of culture, religion, ethnicity and language.
