New Delhi:Indian Men Hockey Team is all set to depart for the Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014 scheduled to be played in The Hague, Netherlands, from 31st May 2014 till 15th June 2014.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Narinder Batra, Secretary General, Hockey India said “I wish the entire team Good Luck for the World Cup and I am sure that the team will give an outstanding performance. The team has done a lot of preparation and especially the new techniques introduced by our Chief Coach Terry Walsh have significantly improved the team’s strength and performance. I am sure the boys will give their 100 percent in every match and results will automatically be good.”
Commenting before the departure Chief Coach Terry Wash said “Team is all set for the World Cup. In the last 10 days the team’s level of sharpness has improved significantly. We have a lot of talented players and I believe that they can do wonders. A good finish at the World Cup will automatically place us at a good spot in the upcoming Commonwealth Games. The positives of the side are that we have a good combination of experienced and young players who can outperform any team in the world. We aim to play well and rock the boat.”
Speaking before the departure Captain Sardar Singh said “We are fully prepared for the World Cup and we will put in all our efforts to perform well in the tournament. We have done a lot of preparation and hard work during our preparatory camps in Delhi and it has helped us to improve a lot. Every match is important for us; especially a good performance in the first match will boost the entire team morale. Everyone in the team is fully motivated and geared up for the tournament.”
India is placed in Pool A of the Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014 with Belgium, England, Australia, Spain and Malaysia. In its opening game of the World Cup, India will play Belgium on 31 May followed by England on 2 June, Spain on 5 June, Malaysia on 7 June and Australia on 9 June.
