Mumbai: Raising the curtain on the season’s most awaited fashion showcase, couturier Manish Malhotra presented his Gloss inspired Indian Cocktail collection, at the finale of Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014. It was indeed a glossy affair as the designer showcased a breath-taking collection inspired by Lakme’s latest beauty statement. Staged in exuberant couture-ensemble, this new collection was a glamorous twist to bridal couture in India, depicting Manish’s signature style.

Setting the atmosphere of drama on the stage was the luxurious bridal suite with props by the Great Eastern Furniture Company; where models depicted a tableau of a bride, as she sits in front of her dressing table, dressing for a wedding party. Varun Dhawan was a surprise – as he opened the show to thunderous applause. The highlight of the show was Kareena Kapoor Khan, the showstopper and face of Lakmé Absolute, as she presented a glamorous and glossy look. Kareena’s stunning appearance on the ramp was a vision of beauty as she glided down the ramp in a glittering silver front open low back kurta over a shaded shimmering diaphanous panelled lehenga and a sensational grey tulle cape appliquéd with rose motifs and lace.

Inspired from Indian tradition, yet speaking a language relevant to the new age bride, Manish reinvented the lehenga as flowing skirts, while adding an extra edge to the festive season with glamorized racer backs. The long kalidars gets a makeover this season and another highlight of the collection is Manish Malhotra’s version of the Gown Sari - the easy silhouette adding to the romance of the ensemble. Bringing in a final touch to these avant-garde ensembles was jewellery by Anmol Jewelers.

Manish Malhotra, grand finale designer for Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/ Festive 2014 said, "It was great working with Gloss as a muse. As always, Lakmé is back with a beauty trend that is sure to become a game changer in beauty and I am glad to be a part of this global phenomenon, especially as a part of the very first Lakmé Bridal Dream Team. My new collection marries the concept of high-gloss with contemporary mirror-work and textured fabrics, bringing alive Lakmé’s GLOSS trend in a form which every neo-bride is wanting to explore.”
