Mumbai: The world’s first movie featuring original eunuchs “Third Man” is all set to scorch the screens. Other than featuring all transgender people in the female roles, one more unique revelation is about a boy who has embraced the third gender which has been recognized by the country’s Supreme Court in April 2014.
Mumbai based Hemant who has converted himself as a transsexual person and known as Hemangi plays an important role in the film. Hemant’s father was a film distributor and was involved in most of the late Raj Kapoor’s films. Having girlish features and habits made him unpopular and rejected since tender age. After his parents’ death and his sister got married, Hemant adopted the hijra communities and became Hemangi. He turns her….!!!
On embracing the transgender community, she was thrown out of the house by his maternal uncle and aunty. With the help of some of his friends he entered the film industry and featured in films like “Shabnam Mausi”, “Down Town” amongst others. He also featured in T.V. shows like “X Aur X” on V Channel and “Zindagi Life” .
The film “Third Man” is closer to Himangi’s because his role is similar to his life story. Hemangi reveals, “I play the role of a boy named Chandu who is feminine in character. He is always snubbed by the society and his family members. So Chandu turns Chameli & joins the naa Raja… naa Rani – hijra communities and is happy in their company.”
Hemangi feels if our family, relatives, friends and society has helped and encouraged and loved us for no fault of us and drawbacks, Hemant would not have become Hemangi. “I want to prove that the third gender person can also achieve goals in life.In times to come I want that no Hemant becomes Hemangi.”
