The Border Security Force has an authorized strength of 1200 male camels.Camels are acquired at 5 years of age, after a formal veterinary inspection.On an average, a camel serves the force for 15 years. Camels at BSF retire from active duty at the age of 21 years. BSF primarily has 3 sub types of dromedary camels: Jaisalmeri (sturdy build), Bikaneri (high speed runner) and Nachna (ceremonial usage)

Guardians of the Thar Desert: Primarily deployed along the India-Pakistan border in the Thar Desert, these camels and their riders play a crucial role in patrolling the harsh terrain, effectively deterring smuggling and infiltration attempts.
Specialized Unit: With over 1,200 camels and 800 camel riders, the BSF Camel Contingent is a unique and vital unit within the Indian security forces.
Operational Prowess:
