Puthandu, commonly known as Tamil New Year is observed as the beginning of the year on the Tamil calendar and is widely celebrated by Tamil people worldwide.
In fact, April 14 is observed as the crucial and important date for all of us. Whether it is Tamil New Year, Puthandu, Baisakhi, Odia Happy New year, Telugu new year, Malayalam new year, Kerala new year, Bharathidasan tamil new year, Chittirai Vishu and many more.
The word Puthandu means new year for Tamil which is celebrated as the lunisolar Hindu calendar’s solar cycle. The day has its own importance especially for Tamil Nadu and Sri Lankan people who use to celebrate the day as the first day of the new year known as Puthandu. People generally use to ask Tamil New Year 2019 date which is April 14 called the this year Puthandu.
People use to celebrate the Puthandu as the traditional Tamil New Year in the same manner, all of us celebrate and welcome the happy new year. The day is such implortant for especially Tamil Nadu, that it is a public holiday in both Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka. In fact, Puthandu which is the Tamil New Year will be celebrated on April 14, 2024.
People have its own significance belongs to Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka. People from the state, celebrate with fervor it’s not matter they are residing in any part of the world. In a bid to celebrate the day, people use to clean their houses and they use to visit their temples. Intention is that they get blessing from the god for a happy and prosperous happy new year.
People offer prayers to the gods and also they enjoye the day with a lavish and massive organized way. People send good wishes to each other and blessing for a happy and prosperous happy New Year i.e. Puthandu.
The day is also celebrated as ‘Chittirai Vishu’ in some part of the Tamil Nadu.They celebrate the day in the same way as the Puthandu festival. People use to focus on the three fruits i.e. mango, jackfruit and banana in a tray with some coins, flower, betel and other things which are used for worship purposes and treated as ominous.
The basic concept behind the Puthandu festival and Chittirai Vishu is that people tried to left no stone unturned to welcoming the positive vibes and enegry with blessings into their houses. For this purposes they cleaned their houses and use to made kolams from rice flour at the gate of their door to welcome the positive vibes at their houses.
