On the occassion of the Guru Nanak's Prakash Utsav, people use to begin the day with prabhat pheris the early morning processions which is the part of celebrations on the Guru Prakash Parv. Prabhat pheris begin at the gurudwaras and people of all age gathers which proceed to the localities with devotees singing hymns.
Youth and children participate in the procession with full fervor and enthusiasm when they carry the Sikh flag, known as the Nishan Sahib. People also use to carry the Palki of Guru Granth Sahib.
In a bid to celebrate the Guru Nanak Jayanti, a 48-hour non-stop reading of Guru Granth Sahib takes place in the gurdwaras before Gurpurab. The process is the part of the Guru Nanak Jayanti which is known as the Akhand Path.
Facts about Guru Nanak Dev Ji
Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Guru of Sikh religion was born on 15 April, 1469 in Rai Bhoi Ki Talvandi which is now situated in Pakistan. Presently the place is known as Nankana Sahib, Punjab, Pakistan. His father name was Mehta Kalu and Mata Tripta was his mother.
It has been said that his father was the local patwari commonly known as thte Accountant. Nanak was married with Mata Sulakkhani in 1487 and they had two sons- Sri Chand-and Lakhmi Chand.
