Bharatiya Janata Party is celebrating 42nd Foundation Day today i.e. on 06 April 2022. The journey from Jana Sangh to Bharatiya Janata Party has not been easy. After Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, the party struggled a lot under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani, but the journey to move forward continued in the midst of many difficulties.
Due to the image of its impeccable leaders and efficient leadership, the party has touched heights today under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Due to this, it was also successful in mobilizing enough numbers to form the government.
- 1951-Under the chairmanship of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, the All India Jan Sangh was established on 21 October 1951 in Delhi.
- 1952-In the general election held in 1952, the Bharatiya Jana Sangh won three seats.
- 1953- In 1953, Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee died in a jail in Kashmir.
- 1957-In the 1957 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Jana Sangh won 4 seats.
- 1962-The Bharatiya Jana Sangh won 14 seats in the 1962 Lok Sabha elections.
- 1967- In the 1967 Lok Sabha elections, the Jana Sangh got 35 seats.
- 1971-The Bharatiya Jana Sangh won 22 seats in the 1971 Lok Sabha elections.
- 1980- Formation of Bharatiya Janata Party on 6 April 1980
- 1984-In the Lok Sabha elections of 1984, which took place after the assassination of Indira Gandhi, there was a strong wave of Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party won 2 seats.
- 1986 - LK Advani became the President of the party
- 1989-In the 1989 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party won 85 seats.
- 1991-The party won 120 seats in the 1991 Lok Sabha elections. Murli Manohar Joshi became the President of the party.
- 1996 -BJP got 161 seats in 1996 Lok Sabha elections
- 1999-In 1999, the BJP won 183 seats.
- 2004-In 2004, the BJP won 138 seats.
- 2009-In 2009, BJP got 116 seats.
- 2014-In 2014, under the leadership of Narendra Modi, the BJP won 282 seats, achieving a historic victory.
- 2019-In 2019, BJP won 303 seats.
