The Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Arun Jaitley has said that in order to strengthen the banks, which are the key pillars of the economy, the Central Government has decided to take a massive step to recapitalize the Public Sector Banks (PSBs) in a front-loaded manner which in turn would help in credit growth and job creation among others.</div>

He holds his 7th Pre-Budget Consultation Meeting with the representatives of the Banks and Financial Institutions (FIs) in New Delhi. </div>

On the occassion,Arun Jaitley said that the Government has decided to infuse capital worth Rs.2.11 lakh crore in PSBs in next two years through budgetary provisions of Rs.18,139 crore, and Rs. 1,35,000 crore through Re-capitalisation Bonds, and the balance through raising of capital by banks from the market. The Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley was making the Opening Remarks during his 7th Pre-Budget Consultation Meeting with the representatives of the Banks and the Financial Institutions (FIs) in the national capital here today. The Finance Minister, Jaitley said that capital adequacy of the banks will help in credit growth and job creation among others.</div>

Along with the Union Finance Minister Shri Jaitley, the Pre-Budget Consultation Meeting was also attended among others by both the Ministers of State, Shri S.P Shukla and Shri Pon Radhakrishnan,  Dr. Hasmukh Adhia, Finance Secretary, Shri A.N. Jha, Secretary, Expenditure, Shri Subhash Chandra Garg, Secretary (Economic Affairs), Shri Rajiv Kumar, Secretary (DFS), Shri Sushil Kumar Chandra, Chairman, CBDT, Shri Sanjeev Sanyal, Principal Economic Adviser (PEA), and other senior officers of the Ministry of Finance.</div>

Various suggestions were given by the representatives of the Banking and Financial Institutions. It was suggested that TDS limit for Bank interest should be raised from the current Rs.10,000/- especially for senior citizens and pensioners given the current scenario. The limit of Rs.10,000/- was last set in the year 1997. It was also suggested to have a Credit Guarantee Fund to encourage investment in Agriculture Sector.</div>

It was suggested that premium up to Rs. 1 lakh on life Insurance policies be exempted from income tax.</div>

Small and Marginal farmers have come together to form FPOs rather than Cooperatives – should get the same benefits as those of companies; Incentives should be given for investments to promote agriculture and infrastructure; Crop Insurance benefits and interest subvention on agriculture credit be given through DBT to avoid misuse; Incentives for incremental jobs among others.</div>

Among other suggestions include to encourage affordable housing, even rental properties need to be given tax benefits; Time limit of recognition of bad debts should be aligned – RBI gives 180days and IT Act 90 days; Monthly reporting by banks to Income Tax  Department should be waived – only annual reporting;</div>

It was suggested to incentivise digital transactions to make 2018 as a year of Paperless Access to Finance; it was suggested to extend the date of Masala Bond TDS which expires in June 2018 among others.</div>

About 68 per cent voting is expected in the first phase of the voting in Gujarat Assembly elections held today. However the election commission will announce the exactly figure for the same, however it is expected that about 68 per cent voting has been done. </div>

Mumbai: ICICI Bank, India’s largest private sector bank by consolidated assets, today announced the launch of a digital service that enables customers to open a Public Provident Fund (PPF) account instantly and in a completely online and paperless manner. With this new facility, customers of the bank are no longer required to visit a branch and submit physical documents to open a PPF account. They can now conveniently open a PPF account anytime, anywhere using the bank’s digital channels of internet and mobile banking.</div>

NEW YORK:  Despite massive corporate investments in artificial intelligence (AI), nearly three-quarters of consumers are concerned about AI infringing on their privacy, according to a new study from Genpact, a global professional services firm focused on delivering digital transformation. The survey of more than 5,000 people across the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia also reveals that 59 percent of respondents think their government should do more to protect personal data from AI.</div>

<b>Disconnect in corporate and customer views</b></div>

Consumers’ wariness of AI contrasts significantly with optimism expressed by corporate management. According to a previous Genpact study conducted earlier this year, 88 percent of senior executives at companies that are leaders in AI expect the technology will drive better customer experiences within three years.</div>

The consumer survey released today is the third in a three-part Genpact research series that offers a comprehensive view of AI adoption, readiness, and impact across three critical and disparate communities – the C-suite, workforce, and consumers. The first study, published in September 2017, explores the C-suite and senior management’s perspective, and the second survey, released in November 2017, looks at workers’ views.</div>

In the consumer research released today, only 12 percent of people surveyed say they would prefer to be served by a chatbot, even if the service they receive is faster and more accurate than that of a human. Yet over three times more executives (38 percent) think their customers will prefer service by a chatbot in three years, according to Genpact’s senior management study. Companies need to lay the groundwork now to address this disconnect and pave the way for smooth AI adoption.</div>

<b>Building trust with cautious consumers</b></div>

Although companies continue to embrace AI (for example, 82 percent of senior executives say they plan to implement AI-related technologies by 2020), many potential customers still have substantial fears. Nearly two thirds of respondents in the consumer study worry that AI will make decisions that will impact their lives without their knowledge. Moreover, 58 percent of people surveyed do not feel comfortable with companies using AI to access their data to personalize and improve their experiences with a brand.</div>

“AI is a game-changer to improve the customer experience, yet real challenges remain regarding trust and privacy,” said Sanjay Srivastava, chief digital officer, Genpact. “To encourage adoption, the key is to have visibility into AI decisions, and be able to track and explain the logic behind them. Companies need to break through the ‘black box’ to drive better insights for their business and give consumers the assurance they need.”</div>

<b>Meeting consumer expectations today, and tomorrow</b></div>

Even with explosive growth of home digital assistants, chatbots, smart sensors, etc., consumers still perceive they have little contact with AI. Less than half of those surveyed say they interact with some form of AI regularly. In addition, two in five (41 percent) believe that AI has made no difference to their lives.</div>

However, the study also shows that younger generations interact with AI more frequently and cite its benefits. They are twice as more likely than older people surveyed to say AI is making their lives better. Younger generations also don’t need the human touch quite as much: Only one third of Gen-Z and millennials strongly agree that they prefer human interaction rather than AI, compared to 57 percent of baby boomers.</div>
