It was another glorious year for the The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) which has been adjudged as the best marching contingent among paramilitary and other auxiliary forces marched at Republic Day Parade 2018 at Rajpath.<br />

Smt Nirmala Sitharaman, Defence Minister presented the prestigious trophy to Shri R K Pachnanda, Director General ITBP and Assistant Commandant Shri Akshay Deshmukh, the parade commander of the ITBP contingent in an official function.<br />

148 member contingent represented the ITBP which has participated in the parade after two year’s gap. The Contingent represented all formations of the Force comprising members from almost all Units of the Force.<br />

It is noted that ITBP has won the best contingent trophy in the category for the record 6th time.<br />

The Force had been adjudged with the best contingent in the years 1998, 1999, 2000, 2004 and 2011.</div>

He said that in nominal terms, India’s share of the world GDP has risen from 2.4% in 2013, to 3.1% in 2017. He said India is performing better on various macro-economic parameters.</div>

Saying that the Government’s initiatives are aimed at empowering the poor, the Prime Minister also mentioned the construction of toilets, distribution of loans through the Mudra Yojana, and distribution of soil health cards.</div>

The Union Home Minister has said the Government has decided for the same and it  will also establish a dedicated Cyber Crime Laboratory to stop Crimes Against Women and Children, he added. Shri Rajnath Singh was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the 24th All-India Forensic Science Conference in Ahmedabad today.</span></div>

This year, Indian tunes will be the flavour of ‘Beating the Retreat’ ceremony, here tomorrow. As many as 26 performances on the historic Vijay Chowk will enthral the spectators with captivating and foot-tapping music of the bands from the Army, the Navy, the Air Force and the State Police and Central Armed Police Force (CAPF). Out of the 26 performances, 25 tunes have been composed by Indian musicians, which are ‘Indian Soldiers’, ‘Jhelum’, ‘Aj Diya Rati’, ‘Herana Herana’, ‘Nritya Sarita’, ‘Kundan Singa’, ‘Mayur Nritya’, ‘Manohar’, ‘Natraj’, ‘Battle of the Sky’, ‘Sitare Hind’, ‘Mushkoh Valley’, ‘Giri Raj’, ‘Tejas’, ‘Gagan Shakti’, ‘The Great Marshal’, ‘The Brave Warriors’, ‘INS Nilgiri’, ‘Namaste India’, ‘Jai Bharti’, ‘Amrit Wani’, ‘Veer Gorkha’ and ‘Shere-E-Jawan’, while ‘Power of Sound’ and ‘Kingdom of Heaven’ are two new compositions. The only western tune will be ‘Abide with me’. The event will come to a close with the ever-popular tune of ‘Sare Jahan se Acha’.   </div>

The ceremony at the Vijay Chowk on January 29th every year marks the culmination of the four-day-long Republic Day celebrations. This year, 18 Military Bands, 15 Pipes and Drums Bands from Regimental Centres and Battalions are participating in Beating the Retreat ceremony. Besides one each of Indian Navy and Indian Air Force band will also form part of the event. Another band of the State Police and CAPF comprising Central Industrial Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force and Delhi Police will also take part.</div>

The principal conductor of Beating the Retreat ceremony will be Maj Ashok Kumar while Army Military bands conductor will be Sub Maj SK Sharma and the Navy and Air Force band conductors will be Master Chief Petty Officer (Musician-I) Ramesh Chand and Junior Warrant Officer Ashok Kumar respectively. The conductor of the State Police and CAPF bands will be Constable Bhim Singh. Buglers will perform under the leadership of Sub Jagdish Giri and pipes and drums bands will play under the instructions of Sub Maj Num Bahadur Gurung.</div>

‘Beating the Retreat’ has emerged as an event of national pride when the Colours and Standards are paraded. The ceremony traces its origins to the early 1950s when Major Roberts of the Indian Army indigenously developed the unique ceremony of display by the massed bands. ‘Beating Retreat’ marks a centuries old military tradition, when the troops ceased fighting, sheathed their arms and withdrew from the battlefield and returned to the camps at sunset at the sounding of the Retreat. Colours and Standards are cased and flags lowered. The ceremony creates nostalgia for the times gone by.</div>

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asserted that the fight against corruption and black money will not stop and the fight is for the future of India's youth. Prime Minister was addressing the NCC rally in New Delhi. </div>

On the occassion he said every young NCC Cadet came to this gathering with his or her own personality and identity. But, he added, that over the course of a month, new friendships would have been forged, and a lot would have been learnt from each other. The Prime Minister said that the NCC has completed seven glorious decades, and has given a sense of mission to several people. The largest ship in the Navy and the country’s only aircraft carrier Indian Naval Ship Vikramaditya was formally affiliated to The Bihar Regiment, a highly decorated and battle hardened Infantry Unit of the Indian Army and the No. 6 Squadron of the Indian Air Force that specializes in maritime strike operations and operates the Jaguar fighter aircraft.</div>

The glittering ceremony was held onboard INS Vikramaditya in the Karwar Naval Base which is nestled amongst the picturesque Western Ghats.</div>

 The Admiral highlighted that the idea behind the affiliation was to foster espirit-de-corps and friendship between the three units that would lead to greater synergy and jointmanship between the three services and would also promote interaction between personnel of the three services and their families.</div>

The formal association between the three units commenced with the reading of the ‘Charter of Affiliation’. The aims of the affiliation and the association that the affiliated units were to maintain were listed in the ‘Charter of Affiliation’.</div>

The highlight of the event was an impressive flypast by aircraft of the Fleet Air Arm. The flypast was led by a formation of Chetak helicopters followed by formation of MiG-29K fighters of the INAS 303 squadron from the Goa based Naval Air Station, INS Hansa.</div>

The affiliation involved a host of activities over 17 and 18 Jan including a formal dinner, affiliation ceremony and organized visits for the visiting personnel. The event culminated with a grand Barakhana organised onboard INS Vikramaditya for all the participating personnel.</div>
