New Delhi: Expressing deep concern at occurrence of 71 cases of dengue from North, South and East Delhi Municipal Corporations during this week alone, Dr. A.K. Walia, Delhi Health & Family Welfare Minister today directed their Health Officers to effectively contain the spread of dengue before it is too late.

He said that it is a matter of concern that as compared to 13 in 2012 and 84 in 2011, this year 226 cases of dengue have been reported in entire Delhi till date. He stressed that the officials have to be utmost cautious and remain on alert during the coming two months as the trend indicates rise in incidence of dengue.

Dr. Walia directed the Municipal Corporations to carry out domestic and field anti-mosquito measures on Saturdays and Sundays also to improve coverage. He further directed to put in service two hand-operated fogging machines in each of the 272 Municipal Wards as well as one vehicle-mounted fogging machines in each of the 12 zones.

He emphasized that health officials of all the three Municipal Corporations must focus on areas from where the dengue cases are being reported. Intensive fogging both at domestic and field level must be carried out in re-settlement colonies, JJ colonies and the areas where construction activities are going on. It is imperative to ensure that mosquito breeding does not take place in water tanks where construction activities are going on.
