New Delhi: National Book Trust and DMRC join hands to promote books and reading habits The National Book Trust, India ties-up with the Delhi Metro to promote books in different Indian languages and reading habits amongst the masses. This move the Trust hopes, will encourage people to read books while travelling, especially during the “non-peak” hours.The organisations signed a Memorandum of Understanding and it will be operational.

DMRC will allot suitable space at least in two prominent locations ( Kashmere Gate and Udhyog Bhavan) to NBT for opening a bookshop/kiosks. DMRC will also identify and allot spaces/locations at prominent Metro Stations to publicise the various book promotional

activities of NBT and the New Delhi World Book Fair scheduled from 15th 2014. Apart from this DMRC also agreed for a joint initiative (by DMRC and NBT) to promote reading habits in which posters or any other visuals in the form of illustrations, promoting reading habits targeting young Metro commuters under CSR initiatives.

This CSR initiative will benefit DMRC employess also. NBT has agreed to offer Book Club Membership to interested officers and employees of the DMRC free of cost against which at 20% discount on sale price of books would be available to all Metro employees in all NBT outlets across the country. NBT shall provide booths free of cost to DMRC for the purpose of setting up of stalls/kiosks for the promotion of Smart Cards during Book Fairs/Exhibitions

Fair 2014 the NBT will put up posters at some Metro stations to attract commuters.The NBT considers the proposed arrangement as an opportunity to exhibit its collection of scholarly and children’s books at Metro stations in the Capital. On this occasion DMRC Managing Director Shri Mangu Singh said that ‘Delhi metro gets 23-24 lakh commuters daily and anything done in Metro gets maximum visibility. Even if it is a small step but it will go a long way in spreading reading habits’. DMRC Director Operations Shri Sharat Sharma said that ‘DMRC s joining hands with NBT for a noble cause’.
