New Delhi: North and South Delhi Municipal Corporations today celebrated Gandhi Jayanti Mela at their headquater Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, Civic Centre. This Mela is oragnised to mark the birth anniversary of Father of the Nation- Mahatma Gandhi as a ritual every year.
Deputy Mayor of North Delhi Ms. Purnima Vidyarthi on the occasion said that Mahtama Gandhi worked for the society till he breathed his last. Following the path shown by him, North Corporation is working towards al around development of the city. Thus development projects such as Medical College, Parking etc. are being developed and put it into service of the citizens.
Standing Committee Chairman Mr. Ram Kishan Singhal said that with time, people are forgetting the ideologies of Mahtama Gandhi. “One of the aims of organising Gandhi Mela every year is to inculcate the teachings of Bapu among younger generations,” said Mr. Ram Kishan Singhal.
Leader of the House, Dr. Mahinder Nagpal said that Gandhi Jayanti is an occasion to remember his sacrifices and struggle which forced the Britishers to leave India. “We should all strive always to work for the welfare of the society,” he said.
Leader of the Opposition, Mukesh Goel said that Gandhiji showed the path of serving uniformly for all classes of society and all we need to do is to follow that. “Gandhiji worked a lot for all the sections of the society, especially Dalits,” he added.
Deputy Chairman of Standing Committee Mohan Bhardwaj said that on this auspicious occasion of Gandhi Jayanti , we should take a pledge to fight against dengue
Councillor and former Deputy Mayor of Delhi. Ramesh Dutta remembered the sacrifices made by Rashtrapita Mahtama Gandhi and said that all persons should live their lives on the path shown by him.
On this occasion, a ‘Akhand Charkha Yagna’ was also organised. The function also saw colourful cultural dance performances by the students of Municipal Primary schools.
