New Delhi: As per the directions of the Lt. Governor and under the overall supervision and guidance of the Chief Secretary, Delhi, the joints teams of Departments of Food, Supplies Consumer Affairs, Department of Weights & Measures, Transport Department, Anti-corruption and Divisional Commissioner conducted drives and raids for ensuring checks & cleansing the system with regard to Public Distribution System, five zonal offices of Transport Department, Petrol Pumps and Department of Education. The Department of F&S by formulating 19 teams headed by IAS officers, IPS officers, SDMs accompanied by officers of Anti-corruption Branch conducted massive drive against hoarders, blackmarketeers, traders and violators of legal provisions.

During the massive drive teams inspected 26 FPSs across the city, out of which 13 FPSs were either found closed or where diversion of foodgrains was detected have been sealed by the teams. In 5 cases where the diversion of SFAs was detected or the records were not found available in the shops, FIRs have been lodged under Section 7 of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 against the licensee of the shops. In the FPSs where record maintenance was found to be improper, relevant records have been seized and the department will take action against these FPSs under the provisions of Public Distribution System Control Orders, 2001 issued under Section 3 of Essential Commodities Act, 1955. The action will also be taken against violators for irregularities like non opening of shop, non distribution of SFAs, non display of rate list and statutory information etc.

To check the cheating and malpractices and to protect the interest of consumers, the Department of Weights & Measures of Government of NCT of Delhi has taken up an intensive drive against the petrol pumps in the city indulging in various malpractices and cheating the consumers by dispensing less quantity of petrol/diesel. The Department by constituting six teams comprising of SDMs, young DANICS officers and personnel of Delhi Police in addition to the Zonal Officers and Inspectors of Weights & Measures Department checked various petrol pumps across the city today.
