New Delhi: For the rehabilitation and welfare of under privileged/neglected boys and girls, the department of women and Child Development has taken a number of initiatives. The Director Women and Child Development Govt. of NCT Delhi, Mrs. Saumya Gupta today inform that the State Adoption Resource Agency functioning under the Department has published a booklet on adoption for the purpose of promoting in-country adoption and awareness generation. The said booklet contains information on adoption procedure in a simplified manner along with list of specialized adoption agencies recognized by Department of Women and Child Development, GNCTD. It is expected to work as an important tool of information dissemination in the field and would be circulated among NGOs / agencies / social work professionals working for rehabilitation of children in need of care and protection.

Smt. Gupta also informed that the tie up has been done with the Orthopaedic Centre for differently abled children being run by NGO Delhi Council for Child Welfare (DCCW) at Pankha Road, Janakpuri for providing professional and holistic medical care to the mentally challenged children housed at Children Home for Girls II, Nirmal Chaya Complex, Jail Road. Six children with special needs have been examined at the OPD of the said centre by an experienced orthopedic surgeon. Subsequent to the assessment, these children are receiving physiotherapy and speech therapy by DCCW on regular basis.

She further informed that a total of 25,139 beneficiaries have been covered under Indira Gandhi Matritva Sehyog Yojna (IGMSY) during financial year 2013-14.

Notifications pertaining to Child Welfare Committees, State Advisory Board and Juvenile Justice Board have been uploaded on the official website of the Department.

She informed that recently LG reviewed the work done by the Department for improvement of living conditions and delivery of services at Observation Homes and directed various departments like police, PWD etc to coordinate with Department of Women and Child Development for facilitating the required work.
