New Delhi: As a major step towards integrating oral health and improve the access to rural areas of Delhi-NCR, Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences launched its Six Mobile Dental Vans (Two Mobile Dental Clinics and Four IEC Dental Vans) under National Health Mission, GoI and Delhi State Health Mission, GNCT of Delhi. These Mobile Dental Vans will surely enhance the availability of oral health services to underprivileged and in inaccessible areas.
This significant event was launched by e Shri. Najeeb Jung, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Shri S.K. Srivastava (Chief Secretary, H &FW), Shri. S.C.L. Das (Secretary, H &FW), Dr.Vasanta Kumar. N, Mission Director, Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Verma and faculty and staff of MAIDS. The vehicles were flagged off from the MAIDS premises.
While addressing the audience the Najeeb Jung, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi mentioned the importance of Oral Health in the process of economic and social development and in improving the quality of life of our citizens. The Government has resolved to launch the National Health Mission to carry out necessary architectural correction in the basic dental health care delivery system. Hence it is necessary to target special groups like children, geriatrics and pregnant and create dental health awareness.
Dr. Mahesh Verma, Director-Principal, MAIDS said that the outreach programs will target initially the North East District. It would provide comprehensive treatment like Emergency care, Preventive care, Routine Curative Care, and necessary Referral. This kind of service would be suitable for physically and Mentally Challenged groups, Schools, Maternal and Child care along with Geriatric sections of the community and will create awareness amongst them.
Suitable staff for the Project has been recruited which includes dental surgeons, hygienists and other support staff.
This is the “First Mobile Dental Initiative” in the country of its kind. Such an initiative will not only improve the utilization of dental services, but also lay a platform for health system integration.
