Patna: In a shocking incident, at least 32 people died in a stampede that broke out in the prestigious Gandhi Maidan during the Dussehra celebrations. The accidents occurred just after the end of the burning of gigantic Ravan effigy on the eve of Dussehara. The Gandhi Maidan was filled with huge crowds for the occasion and the incidence occurred just shortly after the ‘Ravana Vadh.’
Out of the death toll, 20 women and 10 children, where as 26 others injured in the accident.
The misshaping tragedy struck at around 7 PM at the South East corner of the ground when people were returning after watching the "Ravana Vadh" (killing of demon king) event which is one of the famous celebrations in the Gandhi maidan for which people use to gather the events.
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, spoke to the Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri Jitan Ram Manjhi, over telephone this evening, and reviewed the situation arising out of the stampede in Gandhi Maidan in Patna.
The Prime Minister has condoled the loss of lives in the incident. He has sanctioned Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 for the critically injured, from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.
Needless to say, Dussehra celebrations at the Gandhi Maidan are the biggest in Patna and at least 50,000 people turn up every year to watch ‘Raavan Vadh’.
