New Delhi: A ten-day National Cadet Corps(NCC) Camp got underway in Jamia Millia Islamia to equip cadets drawn from the Jamia Schools and university with training skills in respect of drill, rifle drill, map reading, weapons training , first aid, civil-defense and adventure activities. The Annual Camp will culminate in the Flag-hoisting and Guard of honour for the Chief Guest on the occasion of Jamia's Foundation Day on October 29.
Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia visited the camp to motivate 150 student-cadets (100 boys and 50 girls) who have been receiving training by experts. The Jamia camp has equal representation of cadets from school and university sectors. Under the civil defense training the cadets train themselves to carry our rescue operations and activities like providing first –aid and fire-fighting. Doing dry- practice of river crossing, wall climbing, rappelling (vertical descent from a cliff or wall) and friendship ladder are covered under adventure activities.
The cadets observe a meticulously drawn out daily time-table from dawn till dusk with a regular dash of cultural events in the evening.
The Jamia NCC Camp has been organized under the stewardship of Major. N.U Khan (Department of Social Work) in association with Captain Farhana Khatoon (Faculty of Education) and Lieutenant (Navy) Iqtidar Mohd. Khan (Department of Islamic Studies). Two officers from Jamia Schools have joined forces to make the camp successful.
The Jamia NCC Camp was inaugurated by Prof. Shahid Ashraf, Registrar, Jamia Millia Islamia on October 19, 2014.
