New Delhi: Senior Congress leader and ex-MP Shri Sajjan Kumar and chief spokesperson Mukesh Sharma, slammed the BJP for the people’s ordeals in the Delhi. They said the scam should be thoroughly probed, and the guilty punished.
They asserted that the recent seven per cent power tariff hike was hurriedly withdrawn due to the strong protest by the Congress party, but now moves are again afoot to increase the power tariff by 14 per cent after the Delhi Assembly elections, and the BJP has given instructions to the DERC to be in full preparation for this step.
The “pardafash rally”, held under the leadership of Shri Mukesh Sharma at the Budh Bazaar Chowk at Mohan Garden, witnessed a large number of people joining the rally since afternoon. A large number of people from the unauthorized colonies, carrying flags and banners in their hands, and shouting slogans against the BJP and the AAP, had begun arriving at the rally venue well ahead of time.
Sajjan Kumar, addressing the large gathering, said during the Congress rule, many works had been carried out in the unauthorized colonies, which included carpeting the roads with cement/concrete, constructing schools and hospitals, to provide all types of civic amenities to those living in the unauthorized colonies. He said Uttam Nagar was the first Assembly segment in Delhi where work had begun to lay a 237-metre long sewer line in one go.
He said it was very unfortunate that during the past 11 months, the local BJP MLA could not complete the remaining works in the sewer line project. Shri Sajjan Kumar said in Mohan Garden alone, seven new schools and an underground water tank were constructed. He expressed his surprise that despite having an underground water tank, there was severe shortage drinking water in the area.
