New Delhi: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh started the distribution of cheques for compensation of Rs. 5 lakh to the 1984 riot victims in a program organized at Tilak Vihar as announced by Narendra Modi Government. It may be mentioned that just after the formation of BJP Government at Centre, Delhi BJP Pradesh President Shri Satish Upadhyay, National Secretary Sardar R.P. Singh and Spokesperson Shri Rajiv Babbar had with a delegation requested the Union Home Minister for granting additional compensation to the Sikh victims.
Speaking on this occasion, Shri Rajnath Singh said that BJP family has always been sensitive to the 1984 riot victims and today I have become emotional after seeing the suffering in the eyes of our Sikh sisters at the time of distributing the cheques.
Home Minister also announced formation of Grievance Redressal Committee for the 1984 riot victims. A retired High Court Judge will be the Chairman of this Committee. Home Minister also said that this Committee will take decision on all the pending demands of the Sikhs in a time bound manner.
On this occasion, Pradesh President Satish Upadhyay said that BJP will make all possible efforts for securing justice to the 1984 riot victims. Even after 30 years it is very sad to see tears in the eyes of mothers because the guilty persons are roaming free with the support of their party governments. After coming to power in Delhi, we shall ensure that all the cases of Sikhs are disposed off within 2 years.
