New Delhi: The Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research celebrated its Fifth North East Annual Day 'The times, they are a-changin' at the Safdar Hashmi Amphitheatre in Jamia. The event that had enthralling performances by the Brahmaputra Bihu Group, Footwings and the iconic singer from Shillong Lou Majaw was organized.

The evening started with a rhythmic Bihu performance by the Brahmaputra Bihu group. Footwings came next on stage and wooed the audience with popular numbers like 'This Love' by Maroon Five and 'Counting Stars' by One Republic among some popular numbers by indie-pop artists. Their act was followed by Lou Majaw, the Khasi singer and guitarist who is famous for his Bob Dylan tribute shows.

Majaw celebrated 50 Years of such performances this year. Majaw who leaped into the crowd to energize the evening drew huge response with students and numbers of the audience singing and cheering with him with his renditions of 'The Answer is Blowin in the Wind' and 'Knocking on Heaven's Door'.

This is the fifth such cultural evening that the Centre has organised in its efforts of building cultural bridges between the North East and the other parts of the country. With the huge turn outs that the cultural evening has witnessed progressively every year with students and faculty from Jamia and other universities, media and other professionals attending the event, Prof. Hazarika's remark at the outset of the show that "the North East comprises of not 8 but 9 states, with Delhi as the 9th state" stands validated.
