New Delhi: Kaziranga University, one of
North East India’s premier Private University conferred honorary doctorates to Ustad Amjad
Ali Khan and Shri AS Kiran Kumar for their exemplary work and outstanding
contribution to the country. The doctorate was awarded on the occasion of
Kaziranga University’s 2nd convocation, in a glittering ceremony in the
university campus at Jorhat, Assam.
The event was graced by Shri Murli Dhar
Khetan, Chancellor of the University; Shri A.S. Kiran Kumar, Padma Shri,
Chairman ISRO; Ustad Amzad Ali Khan, Padma Vibhushan, renowned Sarod Maestro.
Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Padma Vibhushan,
renowned Sarod Maestro has been recognized by the University for his phenomenal
contribution towards Indian culture and music. He is a man who needs no
introduction and through him the world saw the Sarod being given a new and yet
timeless interpretation. Khan is one of the few maestros who consider his
audience to be the soul of his motivation. As he once said, "There is no
essential difference between classical and popular music. Music is music. I
want to communicate with the listener who finds Indian classical music
remote."
Speaking on receiving the doctorate,
Ustad Amjad Ali Khan said, “I am very happy and privileged to be bestowed with
the Honorary Doctorate by the Kaziranga University. Every award at every stage
of one's life is like an encouragement and a testimony of your journey. I thank
god for all the love that has been bestowed upon me. I would like to thank the
University in all humility for this generous honour.”
Shri A.S. Kiran Kumar, Padma Shri,
Chairman, ISRO has been conferred the doctorate for his unmatched contributions
in Indian Space Engineering Programmes. A Padma Shri awardee, Kiran Kumar
joined ISRO in 1975. He is a distinguished space Scientist and is credited with
the development of key scientific instruments aboard the Chandrayan-1 and
Mangalyaan space crafts.
Talking about the recognition from
Kaziranga University, Shri A.S. Kiran Kumar said, “I feel it is a matter of
privilege and honour. I am sure, in the years to come this institution of
excellence would reach greater heights in imparting high quality education for
nurturing a knowledgeable and skilled youth force that is going to take the
nation to become a global leader in all aspects.”
