New Delhi: In a bid to ensure the safety and security of women in NCR, Delhi Government has deployed13000 bus marshals in the DTC and cluster buses ahead of the free-travel scheme for women from October 29. It is to be noted that the scheme to deploy bus marshals in all the buses was rolled out by the Delhi government this year in June to put a stop to incidents of violence and eve-teasing against women in the national capital.
On the occasion, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the bus marshals will be deployed by the Delhi government to ensure the safety of women in the national capital. 3400 bus marshals are already working and 13000 bus marshals will be deployed in the buses from tomorrow. The 3400 bus marshals have served their duties with full responsibility and excellence. The new marshals have to also work at par with the 3400 marshal achievers so that the people of Delhi feel proud of us.
Kejriwal further added that the safety of women is the most important for us, and women should feel safe at all times. Because we are a family, we have to ensure a safe place for each other. The Delhi government has taken several initiatives to ensure women's safety in the city.
Of the 13000 marshals, 6000 civil defense personnel who will be deployed were trained today. The training session organized at the Thyagraj stadium was held in two phases, 11 AM and 2 PM, training 3000 bus marshals each. The training is conducted by Jagori Foundation and Manas Foundation.
Buses are the preferred mode of transport for women, this step of deploying bus marshals in more than 5000 buses with a primary mandate to prevent sexual harassment of women during their bus rides is a welcome step by the Government.
