Model Schools, Tamil Nadu
The primary focus of these residential schools is to ensure that students from government schools enter institutes of eminence to pursue professional courses in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Medicine). At present, students from classes 9,10, 11 and 12 are studying in 10 model schools that have been functional since October 2021, located across the state. Model Schools initiative is now being upscaled to additional 15 locations across the state with a budget of Rs 125 crores.
Schools of Excellence, Tamil Nadu
Twenty six schools across the State’s key Corporations and Municipalities have been selected to be transformed into Schools of Excellence. These 26 schools will act as platforms that will groom talent, nurture the spirit of sportsmanship and diligence while providing exposure to internal and external opportunities, thereby broadening the horizons for students and teachers. In order to lay a strong foundation towards realising the vision, the infrastructure of Schools of Excellence will be upgraded to meet the needs of the learning outcomes. Each of the schools will be provided well equipped classrooms as per need defined by Pupil-Teacher-Ratio. The Smart classrooms and Tamil Nadu’s unique initiative of networked Hi-Tech labs will provide the avenues to groom our students through formative and summative assessments along with digital content to steepen their learning curves.
Puthumai Penn Thittam
Recognizing that the enrolment ratio of girl students from Government schools in higher education is very low and to promote higher education among girls belonging to the economically weaker families, Tamil Nadu Government’s Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Marriage Assistance scheme is being transformed as the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Higher Education Assurance Scheme. All girl students who studied from Classes 6 to 12 in Government schools will be paid Rs.1,000/- per month directly into their bank account till the uninterrupted completion of their undergraduate degree, diploma and ITI courses.
