Shardiya Navratri 2024: The Shradiya Navratri has already been started and on the second day, devotees worship Brahmacharini, the goddess who symbolizes spirituality and devotion. It is assumed that she is depicted as a meditating ascetic and devotees worship this form of goddess for their overall betterment and welfare.
The commencement of Shardiya Navratri commence from Pratipada and Dussehra is the culmination of the 10 days celebration commonly known as Vijayadashmi which is going to be celebrated Dashami Tithi of Shukla Paksha in Ashwina Month, on October 12, 2024.
The nine-day-long festival which has its own importance in terms of the victory good over evil and is celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion across the country.
Navratri is the famous Hindi festival which is the glorious occasion to worship the Goddess Durga. There are two seasonal Navratri which is famous commonly known as Chaitra and Sharad Navratra.
Generally Navrata is the occasion to worship nine goddess including Shailaputri or Pratipada, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kaalratri, Mahagauri, Siddhidhatri.
The 9-day cerebration is basically the occasions when devotees use to worship the nine forms of Goddess Durga with full fervor. Navratri..which literally means the " nine nights" is the most significant festivals of the Hindu in which nine forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped by the devotess-Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kaalratri, Mahagauri and Siddhidhatri.
In a bid to celebrate the Navratra, devotees use to worship the same deity, performing different rituals.
On the occasion of Navaratra, we use to worship Navdurga or nine forms of Durga. However, on the first day we worship Goddess Shailputri, the first among all the nine manifestations of Goddess Durga. As you know there are total Nine manifestations of Goddess Durga which have been worshipped during the Navratra-Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kaalratri, Mahagauri and Siddhidhatri.
Day 1 (Pratipada)- October 3, 2024 : Devotees worship Shailaputri, the daughter of the mountains. She is depicted riding a bull and holding a trident. Shailputri is assumed to be the daughter of mountain Himalayas which has been mentioned in Purana. It has been said that Shaiputri is the first among all the nine manifestations of Goddess Durga. Goddess Shailaputri is considered the absolute form of Mother Nature. It is said that Shailaputri was born in the house of the King of Mountains, Himalayas Shaila and thus she is known as “Shailaputri”.
Day 2 (Dwitiya)-October 4, 2024: Devotees worship Brahmacharini, the goddess who symbolizes spirituality and devotion. She is depicted as a meditating ascetic.
Day 3 (Tritiya) October 5, 2024 : Devotees worship Chandraghanta, who is known for her bravery and courage. She is depicted with a crescent moon on her forehead.
Day 4 (Chaturthi) October 6, 2024: Devotees worship Kushmanda, the creator of the universe. She is depicted as having eight arms.
Day 5 (Panchami) October 7, 2024: Devotees worship Skandamata, the mother of Lord Skanda (Kartikeya), who is the god of war.
Day 6 (Shashthi) October 8, 2024: Devotees worship Katyayani, who is known for her fierce form. She is often depicted with four hands.
Day 7 (Saptami) October 9, 2024: Devotees worship Kalaratri, a fierce form of Durga who is believed to destroy all darkness and ignorance.
Day 8 (Ashtami) October 10, 2024: Devotees worship Mahagauri, the goddess of purity and serenity. She is depicted as extremely fair.
Day 9 (Navami) October 11, 2024 Devotees worship Mother Siddhidatri, Ram Navami, the goddess who is believed to grant supernatural powers to her devotees.
Day 10 (Dussehra Dashami) October 12, 2024
Generally there are two occasions we use to celebrate the Navaratra which is know as the Chaitra Navratra and Aashwin Navaratra. The famous Hindu Chaitra Navratri begins in the Chaitra month according to the Hindi Calendar. Chaitra is the first month of the Hindi 12 month which is assumed in March/April according to the English Calendar.
Brahmacharini is the second manifestations of Goddess Durga we use to worship on the second day of the Navaratra. Chandraghanta is the name of third manifestations of Goddess Durga and we use to worship on the third day of the Navaratra.
Kushmanda is the fourth manifestation of Goddess Durga and worshipped on the fourth day of the Navaratra. Kushmanda the Fiffth, Katyayani the Sixth, Kalaratri the seventh manifestation, Mahagauri the Eighth and goddess Siddhidhatri is the ninth manifestation of the goddess Durga.
