New Delhi: Congress has said that the issue of the demolition of thousands of jhuggis at the Rangpuri hills of Vasant Kunj in South Delhi by the forest department at the direction of the BJP has not only gained heat, but the Congress party has started a major agitation against the demolition. Chief spokesperson Shri Mukesh Sharma and ex-MLA
Shri Vijay Lochav said at a joint press conference held at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan, here today that former MP Shri Sajjan Kumar, along with thousands of jhuggi dwellers, today held a demonstration outside the Raj Niwas, shouting slogans against the BJP and seeking justice for the affected people.
Both the Congress leaders alleged that the manner in which the jhuggis, which have been in existence at the Rangpuri hills for the past 25 years, were demolished at the behest of area BJP MLA Shri Satprakash Rana, who fears defeat in the Assembly elections, was a clear example of BJP’s anti-poor policies. They said on the one hand, the BJP was talking about regularizing unauthorized colonies and giving relief to the jhuggi dwellers, but on the other hand, JJ clusters were being razed down in Delhi. Shri Lochav said whenever the BJP came to power in Delhi, the poor people were targeted as they became victims of displacement. He said if the jhuggi dwellers were removed without giving them alternate plots, the party will not shy away from starting agitations against the Delhi administration.
Shri Sajjan Kumar, during the demonstration at the Raj Niwas, warned that if the jhuggi dwellers were not allowed to stay in their present location, then lakhs of jhuggi dwellers would gherao the BJP leaders in their homes, for which the Delhi Administration would be fully responsible.
Shri Kumar and Shri Lochav, in the absence of the Lt. Governor, explained the matter in detail about the stand of the Congress party to his secretary Shri R.N.Sharma, and they expressed the hope that Raj Niwas would act on the issue immediately.
Shri Mukesh Sharma said it was not only very shocking that the Aam Aadmi Party was silent about the demolition of the jhuggis, but it has also been proved that the AAP leaders and the local BJP MLA were hand-in-glove behind the demolition of the jhuggis.
