Poonch: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that his government is committed to the development of all regions of the state - including Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
He was addressing a election rally by paying homage to Sardar Pritam Singh, whose statue he had also stopped at to pay his respects, on the way to the venue of the rally.
Modi said that he had come to the state every month, beginning July and he had a close bond with the state. He said it was his good fortune to have met and been blessed by people of the state in such large numbers. He said whenever he had come, he had either come to deliver development, or to wipe the tears of those in pain and anguish, affected by the floods.
During his address, Modi said that funds meant for development, sent by the Centre, were not reaching the people of the state.
He referred to former Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi's assertion that out of a rupee, only 15 paise used to reach the people - and this was when the Congress was the ruling party at all levels. He said, if the entire money sent by Delhi in the last 30 years had been deposited directly in the bank accounts of the people, the people would be prosperous today.
The Prime Minister said, for the first time, there was a ray of hope for the people. He said he was committed to the development of all regions of the state - including Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
Interacting with people in the large gathering, the Prime Minister asked them what the youth of J&K wanted. Amid vociferous replies, he said they only wanted employment, and it was the duty of the Government to deliver it.
He said tourism had to be revived in the state, as this would be a prime generator of employment. He said he wanted to complete the work initiated by former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, referring to Vajpayee's promise of rail connectivity. The Prime Minister also highlighted the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, and said bank accounts for the poor had been opened in unprecedented numbers.
The Prime Minister said terrorists were dumbfounded after the huge turnout in the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. He praised the people of the state for reposing their faith in democratic principles. He said this assembly election was historic, and whatever be the results, it was clear in the first phase itself that democracy had won. He said ballots would triumph over bullets.
The Prime Minister said today there was a new respect across the world for India. This was due to the decisive mandate given to the Union Government by 125 crore Indians. He said if the people wanted Jammu and Kashmir to make a name on the world stage, then a stable state government (with full BJP majority), was necessary.
