In a major event, Indian Kudankulam
nuclear power plant has been honoured with Russian award named ‘Order of
Friendship’. Russian envoy Alexander M. Kadakin awarded the award to R.S.
Sundar.
In a bid to give a new
look to the Russian-Indian cooperation in the field of nuclear energy, the
construction process of new blocks in going on for the plant. Known as the Unit
2 of the plant is ready to produce
electricity and will work in coming days.
Background: The Kudankulam
plant is being built with Russian technical assistance which was signed in
1988. Needless to say, India and Russia signed in 2014 a general framework
agreement for construction of the second stage. Under this agreement, the third
and fourth blocks are also a part of the same.
