Kartik Purnima is a beautiful and meaningful festival that is celebrated with great joy and devotion by Hindus around the world. It is a time to reflect on the goodness in the world and to seek blessings from Lord Vishnu.
Kartik Purnima which is commonly known as the  Poornima, Poonam, Pournami and Pournimasi is to be celeberated on   November 27, 2023. 
Kartik or Kartika maasam (month) is the eighth lunar month in Hindu calendar and it is  very crucial month  for the Hindu panchang. Kartik Purnima or Kartik Snan (Kartik Bath) observed on the full Moon of Shukla Paksha or Purnima. In Vaishnava tradition Kartik month is known as Damodara month. Damodara is one of the names of Lord Krishna. 

Start and End Day for Kartik Purnima
According to the Hindu Panchang, the festivities of Kartika Purnima begin on the day of Prabodhini Ekadashi. As you know, the Full Moon day is the 15th day of the hindu month and Ekadashi is the eleventh day. Thus in the month of Kartika, in the Shukla Paksha, Kartik Purnima festivities last for five days which starts from Ekadashi.

Actually Kartik month has its major importance during which many festival and Parv use to celebrate by the devotees. According to the Hindu traditions the full Moon of Shukla Paksha or Purnima has its own significance. It is Kartik Month in which we use to celebrate the festival of light… Diwali and Chahth Puja. Apart from this, the devotees not only worship Lord Vishnu but they also worship Goddess Lakshmi in the month of Kartik. 

It is noted that Kartik Purnima is the last day of the month of Kartik and the celebration begins from five days early from the Purnima...i.e. the Ekadashi which is known as the Prabodhinin Ekadashi which has its own significance for the devotees. Just with the Prabodhinin Ekadashi the Tulsi Vivah celebration begins which is another important occasion in the month of Kartik.

It has been said that Kartik Purnima is also the birthday of Matsya...It is to be noted that the Matsya is considered to be the Vishnu's fish-incarnation (avatar). According to the Hindu mythology, Kartik Purnima is also considered special occasion with the personification of the Tulsi plant and of Kartikeya, the god of war and son of Shiva.

How to Celebrate 

According to the Hindu mythology, people use to take holy bath on the occasion of Kartik Purnima. In a bid to celebrate the Kartik Purnima, people use to wake up in the morning use to perform the fast and use to take a bath in a sacred river, lake or pond. After taking holy bath in  a sacred river, lake or pond, people use to donation and charity on the occasion as part of celebration of Kartik Purnima.
