New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party outrightly rejects the unsolicited offer of support by the Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid for the Delhi assembly elections. The AAP opposes communalism in all its forms and the party does not endorse political statements by religious leaders.
Unlike many other political parties, including the Congress and BJP, which have accepted support from religious leaders like Shahi Imam on the eve of elections, the AAP makes it clear the party does not need any such support.
The AAP since its inception is consistently of the view that evils like communalism which pose a serious danger to the country need to be completely eradicated and any soft-pedalling it will be detrimental for the country. The AAP takes pride in making its stand public that it will never accept any such offer of support from any religious leader and challenges other political parties to come clean on fatwas issued by such elements.
All attempts by such elements which seem to be propped up by the BJP want to vitiate the communal atmosphere in Delhi and the AAP will expose and resist any attempts to disturb the communal peace and harmony. The AAP makes it clear that in a democracy there is no place for fatwas and the country must come together to rebuff such statements.
