Indian Women's Hockey Team announced for the 17 Asian Games 2014

<p>New Delhi: With the 17 th Asian Games 2014 slated to begin from 19 September, Hockey India today announced the 16-member Indian Women's Hockey Team for the upcoming tournament in Incheon, South Korea.</p>

<p>The 16-member team for the 17 th Asian Games 2014 was selected by Hockey India selectors Mr. B P Govinda, Mr. Harbinder Singh and Ms. Surinder Kaur along with Director High Performance Mr. Roelant Oltmans and Chief Coach Mr. Neil Hawgood on the basis of their performance in the recently concluded XX Commonwealth Games 2014 and selection trials conducted at NSNIS in Patiala on 10 August 2014.</p>

<p>The team, led by captain Ritu Rani (184 caps), will see midfielder Amandeep Kaur (9 caps) and defender Monika (12 caps) as young players who are ready and excited for the challenge. Defender Deepika (131 caps) will be the Vice-Captainof the team.</p>

<p>Riding high on the clean sweep victory over Malaysia and a fifth place finish in the XX Commonwealth Games, the Indian eves will be seen taking on Thailand in their first match of the tournament scheduled for 22 September 2014. The next clashes on the cards for the Indian women are against China on 24 September and Malaysia on 26 September 2014.</p>

<p>The team is currently practicing at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi and scheduled to depart for Incheon, South Korea, on 13 September, 2014.</p>

<p>Speaking ahead of the important tournament, Chief Coach Mr. Neil Hawgood said, “The team has been practicing thoroughly all this while and are in their best form currently. The girls are in uplifted spirits and we expect a really high level of game from them. The women are looking forward to a tough fight against all the teams and are aiming for a top finish in the pool matches.”</p>

<p>New Delhi: Priyanka has said that it is difficult to become Mary Com and she has only tried to portray her in the movie. Talented Priyanka Chopra, who is getting all praises for her power packed performance in the film "Mary Kom" visited Ambience Mall, vasant Kunj to launched Mary Kom Doll and promoted the film film. On the occassion the legend herself Boxer Mary Kom graced the event with actor Darshan Kumaar. Mary Kom is an upcoming 2014 Indian Biographical Drama drama film directed by Omung Kumar and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali on a story and screenplay written by Saiwyn Quadras.Based on the life of the Indian boxer Mary Kom, the film stars Priyanka Chopra in the lead. Sunil Thapa, Darshan Kumaar, Shishir Sharma and Zachary Coffin also star in the movie. The film is scheduled for release on 5th September 2014.</p>

Commitment to peace is ingrained in the DNA of Indian society: Modi

<p>Tokyo: The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has said that commitment to peace and non-violence is ingrained in the DNA of the Indian society. He was responding to questions from students after delivering a special lecture at the University of the Sacred Heart in Tokyo. In reply to a question on how India could enhance the confidence of the international community as a non-NPT state, the Prime Minister said this commitment to peace that was intrinsic to Indian society, has significance far above any international treaties or processes. </p>

<p>He further said that India is the land of Lord Buddha, who lived for peace, and spread the message of peace across the world, he said, adding that India had won its freedom through non-violent means. For thousands of years, India has believed in the principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – the whole world is our family, Shri Narendra Modi said. When we consider the whole world as our family, how can we even think of doing anything that would harm or hurt anyone, he said.</p>

<p>In response to another question, the Prime Minister called for India and Japan to focus on shared values of democracy, development, and peace, saying this effort would be similar to lighting a lamp in the dark. Illustrating his point, the Prime Minister said an intelligent person would fight darkness in a room not with a broom, sword or blanket, but with a small diya (earthen lamp). “If we light a lamp, we need not be scared of darkness,” the Prime Minister said. </p>

<p>Replying to a question on environment, the Prime Minister said India had, for centuries, a tradition of dialogue (sanvaad) with nature. People in India think of the whole universe as their family, the Prime Minister said, saying that children call the moon their uncle, and rivers are addressed as “Mother.” He asked the assembled students if they felt “climate change” was a correct terminology. He said that human beings had actually changed their “habits” leading to strife with nature. This strife with nature had caused problems, the Prime Minister said. He referred to a book - “Convenient Action” - that he had written on the subject, and invited students to read it online, if they were interested. </p>

For AAP, 100 days of Modi government was only tall claims

<p>New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party has said that the discredited Congress-led UPA government was replaced by the BJP-led NDA government with a resounding mandate. However, if the first 100 days are any indication, its work has been anything but landmark and emphatic.</p>

<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi's top priority was to bring back the black money stashed in foreign banks, which he reinforced in every speech during the election campaign. The current Home Minister Rajnath Singh had said that he would bring back the black money from foreign countries within 100 days. BJP leader Subramaniam Swamy had claimed that only two months were needed to bring back the Rs. 120 lakh crore back to the country, and even advocated abolishing the income tax for 40 years, since we'd have enough revenue not to need this tax. </p>

<p>But the actions fall short and are insignificant compared to the promises. 100 days are up. </p>

<p>Another important electoral issue that the BJP and Narendra Modi raised was price rise and its effect on the Aam Aadmi. However, in the first 100 days of the BJP government, the prices of diesel, kerosene, milk, tomatoes, onions, potatoes and nearly every essential commodity went up by astronomical levels. And it's not as if farmers benefited from this price rise, as they received lower real minimum support prices, adjusted for inflation.</p>

<p>For those looking for patterns of similarity, the Union Budget was a clear example of how the Modi government represented cosmetic change and not something more fundamental. Spending on education and health remained exactly the same, and so did the expenditure on women, children and the socially disadvantaged. There were tax deduction announcements, disinvestment, FDI allottment increases, PPPs, calls for modernization, but somehow the Aam Aadmi remained under the radar for Shri Arun Jaitley. </p>

<p>For all the talk of removing MPs with a criminal record from Parliament, there has been little action to follow it up. Twelve out of the 44 Ministers in the Modi-goverment have serious criminal charges against them. Nihal Chand, a minister of the government is facing rape allegations against him in a 2011 case. Yet, their cases aren't even close to being solved and have not been fast-tracked. </p>

<p>The goverment has proposed to loosen the regulations and make as many as 19 amendments in the Land Acquisition Act in a bid to please industrialists without taking care of the environment, farmers and the rural poor. </p>
