More than 60% increase in population has been recorded. </span></span><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">Cheetahs - brought from Namibia - are being introduced in India under Project Cheetah, which is world's first inter-continental large wild carnivore translocation project. Out of the eight Cheetahs there are five female and three male Cheetahs.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">The Prime Minister released Cheetahs at two release points in Kuno National Park. The Prime Minister also interacted with Cheetah Mitras, Cheetah Rehabilitation Management Group and students at the venue. The Prime Minister addressed the Nation on this historic occasion.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">The release of wild Cheetahs by the Prime Minister in Kuno National Park is part of his efforts to revitalise and diversify India’s wildlife and its habitat. <b>The cheetah was declared extinct from India in 1952. </b>The Cheetahs that would be released are from Namibia and have been brought under an MoU signed earlier this year. The introduction of Cheetah in India is being done under Project Cheetah, the world’s first inter-continental large wild carnivore translocation project.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">Cheetahs will help restore open forest and grassland ecosystems in India. This will help conserve biodiversity and enhance the ecosystem services like water security, carbon sequestration and soil moisture conservation, benefiting society at large.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"> This effort, in line with the Prime Minister’s commitment to environmental protection and wildlife conservation, will also lead to enhanced livelihood opportunities for the local community through eco-development and ecotourism activities.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">The historic reintroduction of Cheetahs in India is part of a long series of measures for ensuring sustainability and environment protection in the last eight years which has resulted in significant achievements in the area of environment protection and sustainability. </span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"><span><b>Cheetahs in India:</b> </span><b>Facts in Brief</b></span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">The coverage of Protected Areas which was 4.90% of the country's geographical area in 2014 has now increased to 5.03%. </span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">This includes an increase in Protected Areas in the country from 740 with an area of 1,61,081.62 sq.kms. in 2014 to present 981 with an area of 1,71,921 sq.kms.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">Forest and tree cover has increased by 16,000 square kms in the last four years. </span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">India is among few countries in the world where forest cover is consistently increasing</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">There has also been an increase in the number of community reserves. From just 43 in 2014 their numbers are more than 100 in 2019.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">India is home to 52 Tiger Reserves covering approximately 75,000 Sq Km area in 18 States with  approximately 75% population of the wild tiger at global level. </span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">India achieved the goal of doubling the tiger numbers in 2018 itself, four years in advance from the targeted year 2022.  The Tiger Population in India has increased from 2,226 in 2014 to 2,967 in 2018.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">The budgetary allocation for tiger conservation has increased from Rs 185 crore in 2014 to Rs 300 crore in 2022.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">The population of Asiatic Lions has shown a steady increase with a population of 674 individuals with an increase rate of 28.87 per cent (one of the highest growth rates so far) from the 523 lions in 2015.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">India now (2020) has 12,852 leopards as compared to the previous estimate of 7910 conducted in 2014. Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah, on the second day of his visit to Rajasthan, laid the foundation stone and performed Bhoomi Pujan of the Shri Tanot Mandir Complex Project in Jaisalmer today under Border Tourism Development Programme.</div></span><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">Shri Amit Shah paid homage on behalf of a grateful Nation by paying homage at the ‘Tanot Vijay Stambh’, to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives for the security of our borders.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">In the 1965 Indo-Pakistan War, many bomb shells were dropped by Pakistan on the Shri Tanot Rai Mata temple complex, but none of the shells detonated by the miracle of Tanot Mata. Since 1965, the Border Security Force looking after this temple. The Border Security Force operates the temple through a trust and every morning and evening Mata ki Aarti and Bhajan Sandhya are organized in which thousands of devotees from different parts of the country take part.It is a known fact from history, that during the Battle of Longewala during the1971 Indo-Pakistan War, brave soldiers of the Border Security Force played an important and decisive role at Longewala Post.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">It is to be recalled that the Union Home Minister had also visited the Forward Post on the Indo-Pakistan border in Jaisalmer on December 04, 2021, and interacted with BSF Jawans, while gettingfirsthand information about activities there.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">Under the leadership of Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, development is reaching our border areas for the first time and as a result of the visionary initiative of border tourism, not only is the standard of living of people living in border areas rising, but also migration is stopping from the areas, which in turn in is resulting in strengthening of security in the area. In this direction, the Union Home Minister laid the foundation stone of Rs.17.67 crore Shri Tanot Mandir Complex project under the Border Tourism Development Programme in Jaisalmer, so that youth visiting Shri Tanot Mata Temple will know about the valour and bravery of our soldiers. </span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">Under this project, a waiting room, amphitheater, interpretation center, room for children and several other facilities will be developed to promote tourism. </span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">Shri Amit Shah visited Tanot Mata and prayed for the happiness, peace and prosperity of the Nation and countrymen.</span></p>

This creates understanding among the students about these exams and helps them in making their study plans.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">It is to be noted that Ayushi Dabas was a lecturer of History at GBSSS Mubarakpur and she had secured 48th rank in UPSC 2021. Thane creek is fringed by mangroves on both banks & comprises around 20% of the total Indian mangrove species. </span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">The mangrove forest acts as a natural shelter belt & protects the land from cyclones, tidal surges, seawater seepage & intrusions. The mangrove serves as a nursery for several fishes & sustains the local fishery.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"> The area is an important part of the wetland complex of the Central Asian Flyway of the birds and has been categorized as an Important Bird Area (IBA).</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"> Other than 202 avifaunal species, the creek also houses 18 species of fishes, crustaceans & molluscs, 59 species of butterflies, 67 species of Insects, and 35 species of phytoplankton, and 24 species of zooplankton & 23 species of Benthos. </span></p></div>

These tanks have the potential to harbor good populations of resident and wintering water birds but no studies have been done to confirm this.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;"> Indian Pond Heron Ardeola grayii occurred in most of the surveyed tanks. Large concentrations of wintering waterfowl such as Eurasian Wigeon Anas penelope, Northern Pintail Anas acuta, Garganey Anas querquedula were recorded in tanks. </span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">Vaduvur Bird Sanctuary has a diverse habitat including a number of inlets and surrounding irrigated agricultural fields which provides good nesting and foraging habitats for birds. Thus, the site provides support to the species listed above during critical stages of their life-cycle. </span></p>

The diverse evidence from Indian socio-spiritual traditions, literature, poetry, sculpture, painting and from archaeology attest to the great marine traditions of India.</span><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">India's coastline of more than 7,500 km reflects our vast ocean resources. Most importantly, the Indian Ocean is the only ocean named after a country, that is, India.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">Human society has been continuously benefiting from the natural wealth of the sea and the ocean. However, in the recent times, the plastic litter mostly from the land based activities, tourism and fishing reach the coast and ocean through rivers and different waterways, posing a serious threat to the marine ecosystem. R&D efforts will be undertakento collect scientific data and information on Marine Litter in various matrices, such as coastal waters, sediments, biota, and beaches.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">Globally, "International Coastal Clean Up Day" is celebrated on the third Saturday of September, every year.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">This year on 17th September 2022, the Government of India along with other voluntary organizations, and the local society will run a cleanliness campaign "Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar" along India’s entire coastline.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">This campaign will include Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Indian Coast Guard, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) along with other social organizations and educational institutions.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">This campaign will see massive public participation both physically and virtually, mainly to make awareness about reducing the marine litter, minimal use of plastics, segregation at source and waste management.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: georgia; font-size: large;">it will be the first-of-its-kind and longest running coastal cleanup campaign in the world with highest number of people participating in it.
