PM Modi in Japan: Kashi-Kyoto partnership pact finalises

<p>Kyoto: The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, today witnessed the signing of the Varanasi-Kyoto Partner City affiliation MoU between the Governments of India and Japan at the State Guest House Kyoto. The agreement was signed by Smt. Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa, Ambassador of India in Japan, and Mr. Daisaku Kadokawa, the Mayor of Kyoto.</p>

<p>The MoU focuses on heritage conservation, and cooperation in art, culture and academics. It will also serve as a framework for the smart heritage cities programme.</p>

<p>The Prime Minister was received by Mr. Shinzo Abe, the Prime Minister of Japan at the State Guest House in Kyoto. Mr. Abe travelled from Tokyo to Kyoto to personally receive the Prime Minister.</p>

<p>Shri Narendra Modi also fed fish at the State Guest House in the presence of the Japanese Prime Minister, who hosted a dinner for Shri Modi. </p>

<p>Earlier today, the Prime Minister arrived at Kansai International Airport, Osaka. He was received by Mr. Yagi, Ambassador of Japan in India, and Mr. Yamazaki, Chief of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs,Government of Japan, and the Ambassador of India in Japan, Smt. Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa.</p>

Court slaps Rs.3 lakh fine on Dikshit for non-appearance

<p>New Delhi: In a major setback for the former chief minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit, court has slapped a fine of Rs. 3 lakh for non appearance in a case. Taking cognizance of the non-appearance of Sheila Dikshit, for the seventh time in a row, in a defamation case filed by her against former Delhi BJP President Vijender Gupta, the court slapped a fine of Rs. 3 lakhs on her.</p>

<p>This is the second time that the court had to resort to such strict measures to bring the plaintiff to the court. The court had earlier imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Dikshit for her non-appearance, which was deposited by her in January this year.</p>

<p>Dikshit had filed a complaint against Gupta, who was then the Delhi BJP’s State President, alleging that the BJP leader had used “uncivilized” language against her in the run up to the MCD polls in 2012 while accusing her of helping and conniving with power companies.</p>

<p>Vijender Gupta said that this court case was only a political tool used by Sheila Dikshit and her government to silence her opponents from bringing out cases of corruption and abuse of power in her 15-year tenure as the Delhi Chief Minister in full public view.</p>

<p>Mr. Gupta said that he has been diligently pursuing the case of misuse of public funds by the former Delhi Chief Minister for which the court even ordered registration of FIR against Dikshit. He reiterated, “My fight is far from over. I do not follow the policy of shoot and scoot. I will make sure that the case against Sheila Dikshit’s misuse of public office reaches its logical end and the guilty are punished. Only then can we restore people’s faith in the democracy.”</p>

Modi visit to Japan: Nuclear deal and bullet train could be in agenda

<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he is keenly looking forward to the three-day visit to Japan which will be the first bilateral visit outside India’s immediate neighbourhood. It is also a reflection of Japan’s paramount importance in my vision for development and prosperity in India and in peace, stability and prosperity in Asia at large.</p>

<p>Japan is one of our closest partners in political, economic, security and cultural realms. It is a key regional and global partner for us. Between our countries, there is only goodwill and mutual admiration. Buddhism from India has inspired Japan for over a millennium.</p>

<p>Modi further said that we in India similarly draw inspiration from Japan’s vanguard role as the fountainhead of Asia’s modernization, resurgence and rejuvenation. The people in India are grateful for the seminal contribution made by Japan’s generous ODA over the years to India’s economic, social and infrastructure development.</p>

<p>During this visit India propose to celebrate these links of history and the experiences of our peoples, and impart new meaning to them. We will explore how Japan can associate itself productively with my vision of inclusive development in India, including the transformation of India’s manufacturing, infrastructure sectors, energy and social sectors.</p>

<p>He further said that we will discuss how to boost our defence and security cooperation, including in defence technology, equipment and industry, in line with the evolving domestic policies of the two countries. I will try to accelerate progress on the unfinished agenda of projects and initiatives that our two countries have embarked upon.</p>

<p>Japan, regional leaders, captains of business and industry, friends of India in Japan as well as Indian brothers and sisters living and working in Japan.</p>

Samsung Sports Ratna program for Incheon Asian Games, S.Korea

<p>New Delhi: Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd, a global leader in technology, announced its ‘Samsung Sports Ratnas’ at the official send-off ceremony of Indian athletes for the 17 th  Asian Games. With ‘Our Games, Our Pride’ as the underlying theme, the Samsung Sports Ratna program will support 12 athletes who will be represent India across different sports disciplines at the Games scheduled to take place in Incheon, South Korea from 19 September to 4 October 2014. The Samsung Ratna program was instituted in 1998 for Olympics and Asian Games.</p>

<p>Mr. B.D. Park, President & CEO, Samsung South West Asia and Mr. N. Ramachandran, President, Indian Olympic Association today signed an MoU announcing Samsung as the Official Partner – Asian Games 2014 for the Indian contingent.</p>

<p>Samsung’s long association with Indian Olympic Association started with the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok by supporting the Indian contingent. Thereafter, the company has continued to support Indian contingents to the Olympic and the Asian Games. Samsung started supporting the Indian contingent to the Olympic games from 2000 Sydney Olympic games onwards. The company has supported 22 Samsung Sports Ratnas and 21 Olympic Sports Ratnas till date.</p>

<p>Speaking at the occasion, Mr. B. D. Park said "The Samsung team is happy and proud to be the official partner – Asian Games 2014 for the Indian contingent. Like the people of India, at Samsung, sports hold a special place for us. We have had a longstanding association with major sporting events, including the Olympic and the Asian Games. In India, beyond consistently providing support for the Indian Contingent to the Asian Games and Olympics over the years, we instituted the Samsung Sports Ratna program with the objective of nurturing and developing Indian sporting talent." </p>

<span style="font-size: large;">New Delhi: Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, declared the beginning of the end of financial untouchability in India, with the opening of an estimated 1.5 crore bank accounts across the country, in an exercise unprecedented in scale in economic history.

<span style="font-size: large;">Formally launching the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) at a function in New Delhi, the Prime Minister described the occasion as a festival to celebrate the liberation of the poor from a poisonous cycle. </span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">Expressing satisfaction at a number of records being broken today, the Prime Minister said the nationwide success of the enrolment drive today would give confidence not just to the officials of the Department of Financial Services and banking sectors, but also to officers across the Union Government, that they can successfully achieve the goals that they set for themselves.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">"Never before would insurance companies have issued 1.5 crore accident insurance policies in a single day. Never before in economic history would 1.5 crore bank accounts have been opened in a single day. Never before has the Government of India organized a programme of such scale – over 77,000 locations – with the participation of so many Chief Ministers, Union Ministers, Government and bank officials." He said the success is an inspiration for achieving new heights.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">The Prime Minister said that though the initial target of PMJDY was to open bank accounts for 7.5 crore families in one year, he had exhorted the concerned officials to complete the task before the next Republic Day.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">He said this was not a mere bank account, but had other benefits including an RuPay debit card, Rs 1 lakh accident insurance cover, and an additional Rs. 30,000/- life insurance cover for those opening bank accounts before January 26th, 2015. He said the account performance would be monitored and overdraft facility would be given. The Prime Minister said he had sent 7.25 lakh bank employees, exhorting them to help reach the target of 7.5 crore bank accounts, and bring freedom from financial untouchability.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">The Prime Minister referred to the five beneficiary couples who had received account opening kits in today`s event at Vigyan Bhawan, and said the ladies appeared to have dressed for a festival. He said they knew that there could be no bigger festival than the opening of a bank account for empowering women. </span></div>

Bikers Roared at Jantar Mantar: Free Hugs for Delhi Police

<p>New Delhi: In a one-of-its-kind ride initiated by Bikers for Good, a Motorcycle Community that rides solely for social causes, more than 15 Biking clubs from Delhi came together to send out a message of appreciation and respect for the Delhi Police.</p>

<p>Commenting on the idea behind the ride, Mohit Ahuja, Founder of Bikers for Good said, “The public is there to protest and criticize the police when they fail to do something. We planned this ride to thank them for taking care of the city, through thick and thin.”</p>

<p>The ride saw close to 500 bikers riding to Jantar Mantar riding bikes ranging from 100cc to 1000cc and above. Together the bikers gave a message of responsibility towards safer roads. The admin of Bikers for Good, Jeet Kandhari quoted, “Biking today is growing. Motorcycle Clubs have members who are students, doctors, CEOs and even higher. Doing something like this will only help us better terms between bikers and the police.”</p>

<p>The bikers gathered to thank Delhi Police and Delhi Traffic Police for their efforts. A huge banner with the club logos was put up, where bikers wrote their messages for the Delhi Police. This banner was later presented to Mr. Ajay Kumar Singh, S.H.O., Parliament Street, Delhi. Moreover, Bikers were seen hugging Delhi Police personnel and carrying placards that read FREE HUGS FOR DELHI POLICE.</p>

Mumbai: Bollywood's glamorous designer Vikram Pandhis presented his glorious collection at the ongoing Lakme Fashion Week Winter/ Festive 2014. He showcased a plethora of hues on a traditional palette, at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014.<br />
The detailing of the garments revealed a lavish use of the ever popular gold zardosi and gota, which enhanced and illuminated the light weight fabrics from a distance. An interesting blend of tie and dye also had a captivating eye-catching aspect that revealed a creative look.<br />
Vikram shifted from the usual hustle bustle of colours that he has normally displayed so flawlessly in his previous assemblages, to more hushed and earthy tones. The colours ranged from the deepest of maroons to mesmerizing greens, wild blues and spicy mustards. A number of Indian elements dominated the western and traditional silhouettes, emphasising the notion that Vikram managed to dominate the look on the ramp with his stylish inputs whether they were a pair of palazzo pants, kurtis or saris.<br />

The ambience of the show was grand with chandeliers gracing the stage. Drop-dead gorgeous models catwalked down the ramp in chic Indian wear that featured silhouettes like short kurtas, jackets, lehengas, half sari’s, Anarkalis and long kurtas.<br />
Mesmeric colours like nudes, golds, hints of silver, off-whites and sequined detailing opened the show. The mirror danglers were an added highlight that framed the ensembles. Creations that stood out were the nude long kurta with sequined elements that were paired with gold embellished zardosi and embroidered palazzos.<br />
Bollywood actress Dia Mirza stopped the segment as she walked gracefully down the ramp in a velvet jacket with gold embroidery, worn over a short nude kurta, net lehenga teamed with mustard dupatta that looked so effortlessly alluring.<br />
The second half featured similar silhouettes but with an added pop of colour. The garments that were eye-catching were the dual toned red/blue velveteen jacket worn with a nude kurta over a tie and dye lehenga and the front zipped jacket with nude/blue ombré sari.<br />
The second dazzling showstopper was also Bollywood star Bipasha Basu, who looked stunning in an oxblood lehenga with a two-toned dupatta and an 18 kali skirt with gold panelled embroidery. <br />
The captivating Vikram Phadnis collection at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014 was perfect for the beauty queen or the girl next door.</div>

<p>Mumbai: "Jaime La Vie” – I Love Life" was the title of Pallavi Singhee's collection from her label "Verb" at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014. The designers aim was to make women gorgeous, which Pallavi’s ensembles succeeded without a doubt as the models strutted down the ramp in a variety of garments. </p>

An interesting innovation was the red pant-cum-sari, the churidar draped sari, beaded body suit teamed with a dhoti-sari, poncho over corset and draped skirt and the textured top with a blue tulip skirt. Embellished boleros added variety to the collection, Jodhpur pants had body-con blouses and the black Grecian sari gown with dazzling gold work was stunning.<br />
The show stopping entry was sexy Malaika Arora Khan in a post-box red lacy embroidered gown with a layered luxurious tulle flounce.<br />
