<span style="font-size: large;">Today I embark on a unique and memorable journey from the land of Somnath to the city of Lord Vishwanath. Later today I will be filing my nomination papers from Varanasi as the BJP candidate. I would like to thank the leadership of the Party for giving me this opportunity to contest elections from this city that has such a rich history and culture. I bow to the Party Karyakartas who have been working tirelessly on the ground from the time my nomination was announced and the Karyakartas and well-wishers from all over India who have supported me in the last few months.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">“Varanasi is older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend, and looks twice as old as all of them put together.”(Mark Twain) </span><span style="font-size: large;">Varanasi is the cradle of India’s glorious culture, a confluence of tradition, history, culture and harmony. This is the blessed land of the Sankat Mochan temple. The spiritual power of this land is exceptional. It drew people from all over the world, who came to this land in search of peace and Moksha. It was in Sarnath, that Gautama Buddha delivered his first sermon after attaining Enlightenment. Varanasi is the birthplace of the venerable Sant Ravidas. It was in Benaras that Mahatma Kabir was born, lived and shared his wisdom. Mirza Ghalib described Benaras as ‘Kaba-E-Hindustan’ and ‘Chirag-E-Dair’ or the light of the world. When Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya had to select a place to set up a centre of learning, it was not a surprise that he chose Benaras. No mention of Varanasi is complete without remembering Ustad Bismillah Khan, arguably the greatest symbol of Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb. Ustad Bismillah Khan Sahab’s love for Varanasi is legendary. I was very happy when Ustad Bismillah Khan was conferred the Bharat Ratna by Atal ji in 2001.</span><br />

This means creating state-of-the-art tourist and infrastructure facilities for Varanasi. And it is my firm belief that once we are able to give the required impetus to tourism, it will not only bring more tourists but also enhance the livelihood of the poorest of the poor. More tourists means more income for those associated with temples, those who are living on the Ghats, those who ride the ferries on the Ganga…the entire town and surrounding areas will receive a much needed facelift.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Ganga is the lifeline of Varanasi and is at the core of our identity- She is our Mother. Unfortunately, governments have not been able to devote the attention that should have been given to Ganga. The condition of the Ganga in several parts of UP is pitiable. We can’t let this go on anymore! Need of the hour is to work towards cleaning the Ganga and restoring it to its previous glory. In 1986 the Government of the day brought the Ganga Action Plan but it merely remained a plan, the action was missing. Budgets were allocated but the money was never used for the intended purpose. The condition of the Varuna too is similar. Now is the time for urgent action to solve this anomaly!</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">And when I talk about my commitment to clean the Ganga, it is not a mere promise. When I took over as CM in 2001 the condition of Sabarmati was similar. It was better known for hosting circuses and children playing cricket. Switch to 2014 and things are very different! We have brought water from the Narmada and now water flows through the Sabarmati. A world class Sabarmati River Front was created, which has emerged as a popular recreation and cultural spot in Ahmedabad. With the blessings of Baba Bholenath, this is what we intend to replicate in Varanasi.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">It is not only the Ganga that has become the victim of sheer negligence. We are firm in our commitment to address the issues of cleanliness in Varanasi so that we can give the citizens of Varanasi a clean and green city. We will focus on solid waste management right from collecting the waste to treating it. Similarly, the poor waste disposal practices over the years have not served the people of Varanasi well. We will leave no stone unturned to ensure that such occurrences are history within a very short period of time. Within a fixed timeframe, the problems of solid waste management, sewer and chemical waste will be successfully mitigated.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">The weavers of Varanasi are an integral part of the city’s history, present and future. Unfortunately, due to apathy of the governments in Delhi and Lucknow their work has suffered. It is my firm resolve to infuse this sector with latest technology and qualitative value addition so that the weavers of Varanasi become our pride at the world level. From ensuring that they get quality raw material to better marketing of their products, it is my resolve to ensure that they stand on their own feet with pride and their future generations have a bright future. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">A few days ago something very disturbing came to my light. In a village near Varanasi a high voltage line fell due to which a few people including women were injured. I was surprised and saddened to know that the injured did not receive timely medical help and the authorities showed no concern. This is a symptom of a larger decay across UP and this is the decay that we want to end.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">Friends, today as I go to Varanasi, I seek your support and blessings. Bless me so that I can restore this glorious city to its prime and so that I can bring a sea of change in the lives of people of Varanasi and Poorvanchal so that this region once again becomes the focal point of our nation’s development and our proud culture.</span></div>

I addressed my final rally in Ballia, the land of the hero of 1857 Mangal Pandey, in Eastern UP.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Since September 13<sup>th</sup> 2013 when the responsibility of being the BJP’s PM candidate was given to me, I have been travelling across the length and breadth of India. Friends in the Party told me that I have addressed rallies and programmes in almost 5800 locations, covering a distance of over 3 lakh kilometers. The number of rallies I addressed in this campaign season is 440, including the Bharat Vijay Rallies that I began with the blessings of Maa Vaishno Devi on 26<sup>th</sup> March 2014.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">The campaign was a wonderful opportunity to once again witness India’s celebrated diversity, the vibrancy of the people and the beauty of our culture. Working for the Organisation I have travelled across India in the past but this time it was very different.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">The unprecedented blessings I have received from the people have been very humbling. Conventional wisdom would suggest such a campaign would be tiring but I am experiencing a deep satisfaction and freshness that one would feel after a long and elaborate <i>Sadhna</i>. Through the campaign I got to worship the Janata Janardan.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">When I look back at the entire campaign, three words come to my mind - Extensive, Innovative and Satisfying.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Throughout our campaign, we took agenda of development and good governance to every corner of India. People are tired of false promises, corruption and the same old tape-recorded messages ridden with dynastic references only to hide one’s own failure. They want a better tomorrow and NDA is the only alliance that can provide this change.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Nothing made me more glad than seeing the enthusiasm of our Karyakartas! They have worked tirelessly throughout the campaign. Seeing a rally on TV and social media is one experience but working on the ground is something out of the world! We do not view campaigns through the limited prism of electoral victory or defeat. A campaign becomes a life changing experience for the Karyakartas. It is a golden opportunity to strengthen and expand the Organisation and increases the bond between the people and the Karyakartas. Our Karyakartas went door-to-door and spread the Party’s message and we are very proud of them. Our campaign is the story of the hardwork of each and every BJP worker, who has selflessly set out to create a better India for future generations.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">In the entire campaign we received the continuous support and guidance of the leaders of the Party. We derive immense strength and inspiration from the solid experience and wisdom of our leaders and their active participation in the campaign gave us an impetus and boosted the confidence of Karyakartas.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">This campaign will be remembered for path breaking innovation. In a polity where political campaigns were more about one-way communication, our Chai Pe Charcha was an innovative break from the past. Charchas were held in over 4,000 locations across India. During these Charchas, I sat for hours and heard the views of the people and then answered their questions on a wide range of issues. One of the Charchas was held in Wardha (Maharashtra) where I met families of farmers who had committed suicide. I was really saddened. After so many years of freedom, our farmers are still ending their lives even as the present Government watches on silently. For how long can we let this go on?</span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Innovation was seen in the Bharat Vijay 3D rallies. In one month I addressed 12 rounds of 3D rallies covering 1350 locations. The response to the 3D rallies was phenomenal. So many youngsters wrote to me on mail and social media ‘thanking’ me for coming to their village. People told our Karyakartas- we want to meet Modi ji on stage…such was the buzz these rallies generated.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">For the first time in the history of Indian electioneering an exclusive volunteer portal was set up in the form of <a href="http://www.india272.com/">India272+</a> (<a href="http://www.india272.com/">http://www.india272.com</a>). All one had to do was log in and begin work either online or by participating in the onground activities. Through <a href="http://www.india272.com/volunteer">India272+ we sought inputs from our volunteers</a>. I was truly enriched by their ideas and contribution. Such forums have the potential to <a href="http://namonumber.india272.com/">revolutionize campaigning and create a paradigm shift</a> in interfacing and mobilizing well-wishers.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">It was amazing how all forms of social media were innovatively used throughout the campaign. This includes the ever popular WhatsApp- a lot of friends showed me innovative WhatsApp messages, campaign slogans and infograhpics that were hugely popular. After casting my vote I shared my own Selfie and called for your Selfies. This generated tremendous buzz on social media. I also had a free and frank interaction with several friends from the print and electronic media. I was interviewed by the Hindi, Regional and English media.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">I cannot forget the affection I have received in the last eight months. The events of Patna will remain etched in my memory- there were live bombs on one side but the resolve of the people prevailed. Nobody left the venue of the rally. I had a clear message that day that I repeated often during the campaign- we can decide whether we want to fight each other or we want to unite to fight poverty? The former will lead us nowhere while the latter will take our Nation to greater heights.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">Most importantly I wish to thank the people of India who joined our rallies, 3D events and Charchas in large numbers. People cutting across all age groups and transcending barriers of caste, creed or religion joined us. I often said that Narendra Modi or any one else is not fighting these elections. The people of India have taken these elections on their shoulders. Each and every citizen of India has become a driving force of change.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: large;">In most places where I addressed rallies, it was very hot yet people came in record numbers. A few days ago when I was in Visakhapatnam, it suddenly started raining during the rally. Yet the people remained. No words will be able to convey my gratitude to the people. I assure the people of India that I will repay this overwhelming affection with unprecedented development that will lay the foundations of a strong India.</span></div>

I urge all those voting in the final phase to vote in record numbers, especially the youth. Please go to vote, take your family and friends to vote. Every vote matters!</span></div>

Congress filed a complaint against Ramdev for his comments on Rahul Gandhi

<p>New Delhi: The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) Scheduled Caste leaders today filed a complaint against Yoga guru Baba Ramdev for his derogatory remarks against Rahul Gandhi and the Scheduled Castes with the Delhi Police Commissioner’s office. Among those who filed the complaint included former DPCC general secretary Lalchand Chandelia, former president of the SC Department Cell Shivram Singh, former secretary Sunil Kumar and retired DC Ashok Kumar. </p>

<p>The four leaders demanded the Police Commissioner to take immediate action against Baba Ramdev for his derogatory remarks. They said Baba Ramdev had lost his mental balance. He has insulted the Dalit women of the country. They demanded that a case should be filed against Baba Ramdev under the SC/ST Act, and he should be arrested immediately. </p>

<p>They said for making such disparaging comments about Scheduled Caste women, Baba Ramdev should be immediately arrested. They said the SC community will fight against those on the street who insult the daughters of Scheduled Castes. They said either Baba Ramdev should immediately apologize, or else the Scheduled Caste community will gherao him at different parts of the country, and he will not be allowed to sit peacefully. </p>

Congress and BJP indulged in shadow boxing on communalism and corruption: AAP

<p>New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party challenges the Congress and the BJP to make their stand clear on the deal between Mr Narendra Modi and the Gandhi family about not probing any serious allegations of corruption and misuse of official position against each other.</p>

<p>The ongoing election campaign has provided enough evidence about the top leadership of these two parties having decided to bury the possibility of investigations involving their leaders and families.</p>

<p>The Congress and BJP stand compromised on the issues of corruption, communalism and misuse of office for illegally spying on innocent citizens.</p>

<p>The recent statement of BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate, Mr Narendra Modi that he would not like to get involved in old issues with reference to whether allegations of illegal land acquisition and corruption against Robert Vadra, the son-in-law of Congress President Sonia Gandhi, makes the intention of BJP highly suspect.</p>

<p>New Delhi: Dr. Harsh Vardhan, BJP Delhi Pradesh President, has demanded a high level inquiry into yesterday’s reported low voter turnout in Mumbai and elsewhere in Maharasthra. He has charged the Election Commission of India of being “complicit through indifference” to the Maharashtra state machinery’s operation of excluding more than 60 lakh voters from the rolls.</p>

<p>“The electoral rolls of Mumbai, Pune, Amravati and Nagpur were manipulated to suit the ruling Congress-NCP alliance. Rather than rig the election through violence, they chose to silently drop names of people most likely to vote for change. This is what I call ‘Rigging at Source,’” Dr. Harsh Vardhan said.</p>

<p>The media tried to give the people of Mumbai a bad name claiming they did not vote at the desired rate. But the polling percentage was 52.66 percent, a 25-year record. If genuine voters were not turned away by a conspiracy of the Congress-NCP government of Maharashtra, the turnout would have exceeded the 55 percent achieved in 1989.</p>

<p>He pointed out, “It is clear the people of Mumbai wanted change this time. The Mumbaikar is a very practical person and usually does not vote in large numbers on week days. But this time they were so eager to see a Narendra Modi-led government in Delhi that they came out in record numbers. In 1989 too they wanted to vote out Rajiv Gandhi and so exercised their mandate at an unprecedented rate”.</p>

<p>“The BJP had anticipated this conspiracy and had complained to the Election Commission well in advance. But the Nirvachan Bhawan officials placed too much reliance on the whitewash reports of the Maharashtra State Election Commission which is a creature of the Maharastra government and not an independent authority,” Dr Harsh Vardhan said.</p>

<p>Throughout Election Day, reports were coming in of people being turned away from polling stations because their names had either been deleted or, in the case of new voters, simply not included. Among those turned back was actor Amol Palekar.</p>

<p>Dr. Harsh Vardhan said that the problem emanated from the Election Commision’s helplessness when meeting apathetic state government officials. “Though the Election Commission of India has done the nation proud and is recognized as the gold standard for its impartiality and efficiency, it is still reliant on partisan state machineries like the one in Maharashtra,” he added.</p>

<p>He said that the cynical attitude of the Congress-NCP in Maharashtra is evident from the way polling officials put indelible ink on the right index fingers of voters in Girgaum and Borivili. “Do they not know the basic rules? What has the EC done to bring these officials to book? Should they not be suspended?” he demanded to know.</p>

<p>He recalled that during the Delhi Vidhan Sabha elections in Delhi, thousands of new voters found that despite submitting their papers and forms their names had not been put on the list. So they were turned away from the polling centres. “The black hand of the Congress is seen in every election. They are afraid of losing,” Dr. Harsh Vardhan said.</p>

<p>New Delhi: BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman has said that the Supreme Court of India has stated that the central government has committed "gross Contempt of Court". The government of India has failed to comply with the SC orders issued three years ago on July 04, 2011.</p>

<p>The SC had then ordered the GOI to divulge the details of bank accounts held abroad in Liechtenstein. The court had said in no uncertain terms, "disclose forthwith" to the petitioner. Three years afterwards, today, the government is yet to disclose. The government has conveniently chosen to wait till the completion of investigation by the SIT. The SC has given time to the GOI till Tuesday, 29<sup>th</sup> April, 2014.</p>

<p>Again for the record, let it be said here, that not until December 14, 2005 did the United Nation Convention against Corruption come into force. Exchanging information for the prevention of tax fraud or the like has become possible only thereafter and the UPA led by the Congress Party has only been misleading the people of India on this matter. After much delay and pressure the UPA govt ratified this convention only in May 2011.</p>

<p>She further added that the PM Dr. Manmohan Singh had promised in 2009 that he will bring back the black money within the first 100 days of his taking charge. Importantly, the Swiss Government had passed an Act the "Retrition of Illicit Assets Act, 2011" which empowers its government to return black money to the country of origin of the depositors. France and Germany has invoked this Act to get their monies back.</p>

<p>In May 2012 the GOI came up with a White paper on black money, which said nothing. It speculated an the extent of black money in Swiss Banks.</p>

<p>The BJP took several concrete steps; it made all its Members of Parliament (MP) to sign an affidavit disclosing accounts held abroad. It constituted a Task Force which identified and gave details of Black Money.</p>

<p>The government stands completely exposed in this matter. It is neither committed to get black money back nor will it take action against Tax evaders in this country.</p>

Mr Shashi Tharoor speaks of “bleeding” leadership without giving an answer about why his government failed in the matter of the Indian soldiers who were beheaded. The “bleeding” of Indian soldiers by Pakistan did not invoke any response from the Congress leadership. Where was Mr Tharoor when this ignominy was faced by the nation? LS Poll: Fifth phase for 121 seats, Acid test for BJP and Congress

<p>New Delhi: Polling began for the fifth phase of the general election 2014 across 12 states in the country. The polling will decide the fate of candidates in 121 constituencies of the country.</p>
